We're well into the thick of things in December, with the busy holiday period just around the corner for the 20 Premier League teams.

Some of the madness has already started as there were some eyebrow-raising results over the weekend, while other teams did exactly what was expected of them.

We try to make sense of it all in the latest Power Rankings, which are not meant to look at the overall picture, but rather to provide a snapshot based on current form, strength of opposition, and other factors. As always, these rankings are based on Premier League play only.

Here are DAZN News' Power Rankings after Matchweek 16.

1. Aston Villa (—)

The hottest team in Europe remains on top after their sixth straight triumph in the league.

Next match: Dec. 21 vs. Manchester United

2. Manchester City (—)

A statement victory at Crystal Palace wasn't quite enough to past Man City into the top spot.

Next match: Dec. 20 vs. West Ham

3. Chelsea (▲2)

The Blues are back to winning ways, doing so quite comfortably against Everton.

Next match: Dec. 20 at Newcastle

4. Arsenal (—)

Despite having lost just once in their last five league matches, the Gunners still don't feel like the dominant side of a month ago.

Next match: Dec. 20 at Everton

5. Newcastle (▲1)

Their four-game unbeaten streak ended with a loss in the Tyne-Wear Derby, but the big drop by the next team nudges Newcastle up slightly.

Next match: Dec. 20 vs. Chelsea

6. Crystal Palace (▼3)

A humbling home loss to Man City shows Palace just how far they need to go to be a truly elite team in this league.

Next match: Dec. 20 at Leeds United

7. Liverpool (▲1)

A clean sheet victory and their fourth straight match without a loss. Are the Reds on the right track?

Next match: Dec. 20 at Tottenham

8. Everton (▲1)

The Toffees fell to Chelsea but still inched upward, thanks to other teams falling further.

Next match: Dec. 20 vs. Arsenal

9. Manchester United (▼2)

Yes, the Red Devils are unbeaten in four. But they are also maddeningly inconsistent and blew three separate leads in their latest game.

Next match: Dec. 21 at Aston VIlla

10. Fulham (▲3)

Their character-building win over the weekend is Fulham's third in their last five matches.

Next match: Dec. 22 vs. Nottingham Forest

11. Leeds United (▲4)

Their latest draw isn't too noteworthy, but the team is now unbeaten in three and benefits from big drops by other sides.

Next match: Dec. 20 vs. Crystal Palace

12. Brentford (—)

The Bees were on the other end of Leeds' draw, but they'll need more than stalemates at home if they want to climb.

Next match: Dec. 20 at Wolves

13. Tottenham (▼3)

It seems to be one step forward, three steps back for the Londoners, who are fully worthy of their big drop after a lopsided loss to Nottingham Forest.

Next match: Dec. 20 vs. Liverpool

14. West Ham (▼3)

Looked like they might come away with something against Villa, but instead suffered yet another defeat.

Next match: Dec. 20 at Manchester City

15. Nottingham Forest (▲2)

A three-goal victory will provide a boost to any team.

Next match: Dec. 22 at Fulham

16. Brighton (▼2)

Lost by two goals to Liverpool and now winless in three games.

Next match: Dec. 20 vs. Sunderland

17. Sunderland (▼1)

The Black Cats won their big rivalry match for their first victory in three matches. It wasn't enough to move up, though.

Next match: Dec. 20 at Brighton

18. Bournemouth (—)

Did well to fight to a high-scoring draw with Man United, but the Cherries still need to start winning again.

Next match: Dec. 20 vs. Burnley

19. Burnley (—)

Another week, another loss for Burnley.

Next match: Dec. 20 at Bournemouth

20. Wolves (—)

Played arguably their best football in months against league-leading Arsenal, but still managed to come away with nothing.

Next match: Dec. 20 vs. Brentford
