A pair of top-six Premier League sides will clash in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-finals on Tuesday, as Newcastle United and Manchester City face off at St. James' Park.
Newcastle's enjoyed a spectacular start to 2026 as they head into this match having won four straight matches. The most recent of these victories came over the weekend, when the Magpies defeated Bournemouth in a penalty shootout to advance to the next round of the FA Cup. That came after three straight wins in the Premier League.
Meanwhile, Man City's 2026 has been a bit less enjoyable as they ran off three straight draws since the calendar changed, allowing Premier League-leading Arsenal to build on their advantage atop the standings. However, the Sky Blues got to take their frustrations out on third-tier club Exeter City over the weekend, winning 10-1 in their FA Cup contest.

Eddie Howe, Newcastle

"Pep [Guardiola] will tactically have something ready for us, and we will have to be at our very best to get through. They change and tinker a lot with the tactical set-up they have. They're a difficult team to read and know how to plan and prepare for."
Pep Guardiola, Manchester City
(via BBC)
"Many years since Eddie Howe took over, look how many games they have won in the last minute. The push from the crowd - it's always been like that for a long time. In that stadium, it is special. The semi-finals, playing Arsenal and Chelsea, it would be as difficult as Newcastle is."
The Magpies can boast a better recent string of matches, but Man City can never be overlooked. With it being the first leg, neither team will look to win it at St. James' Park. A draw could be in order.
Prediction: Newcastle 1-1 Manchester City
