Two very familiar rivals are set to renew hostilities as Real Madrid host Atletico Madrid in the first leg of the Champions League's round of 16 on Tuesday.
Los Blancos were last in action this past weekend, falling 2-1 at Real Betis in La Liga. That loss allowed both Barcelona and Atletico to leapfrog them in the league title race, and Real Madrid now have just a single victory in their last five league matches.
Meanwhile, Atletico moved past their city rivals as noted, thanks to a 1-0 victory over Athletic Bilbao on Saturday. The Rojiblancos have now won back-to-back La Liga matches and are unbeaten in 10 games across all competitions.
Here's what to know about Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid before their second leg match.
Real Madrid are well ahead in all-time victories against Atletico, winning 116 of 236 meetings.

“We're not thinking about winning by a certain margin because that's not feasible. It's going to be a hard-fought tie and it will be decided in the second leg. The aim tomorrow is to play well and take an advantage into the return game. We can't think about building a significant lead tomorrow, it's impossible. The opposition are hugely competitive, in good form and it will be a very tight tie until right at the end."

"It’s a match filled with a lot of respect, against a great rival. I understand that they respect us in the same way. If it were a team from another league we wouldn’t touch these issues. For the city it is spectacular. For Spain, to be able to have a team from Spain in the quarter-finals…. And for us who are going to play, to enjoy it. It’s a very important moment, with a very respected opponent."
Neither side come into this match in particularly good form. With Real Madrid's injuries, Atletico could be able to snatch a draw at the Bernabeu as they did last month.
Prediction: Real Madrid 1-1 Atletico Madrid
