With the January transfer window fast approaching, speculation is mounting about possible moves for a number of Premier League stars.

Although traditionally a notoriously difficult time to recruit, many clubs will use the window to bolster their squads as they gear up for the second half of the campaign.

Here, DAZN News reporter Ross Heppenstall takes a look at six players who could be on the move next month.

Mohamed Salah (Liverpool)

It is difficult to pick up a newspaper or turn on the television right now without hearing about the Egypt striker.

Salah’s future remains the subject of huge conjecture following his stunning outburst against Liverpool and manager Arne Slot after the recent 3-3 draw at Leeds United.

Salah and Slot called a truce of sorts before last weekend’s home clash with Brighton and the legendary frontman came off the bench to play his part in the Reds’ 2-0 win.

But he has now headed off to the African Cup of Nations and it appears a very realistic prospect that Salah will be sold in January.

Clubs in Saudi Arabia are noted admirers of the 33-year-old, who was the subject of a rejected £150million bid from reigning SPL champions Al-Ittihad in September 2023.

Al-Hilal could be another option as their star names include Salah's ex-Liverpool team-mate Darwin Nunez and they are managed by former Inter coach Simone Inzaghi.

Kobbie Mainoo (Manchester United)

The homegrown midfielder has fallen away down the pecking order at Old Trafford under Ruben Amorim.

United legend Paul Scholes has been critical of Amorim’s handling of Mainoo and suggested the 20-year-old should look to leave in January.

Joining Chelsea on loan has been touted as a potential option for the England midfielder, who surely needs a move to revive his career.

Amorim said he could understand criticism from club greats such as Schole but defended his stance on Mainoo.

The United boss manager said: “Sometimes they don’t have all the information and they see Manchester United with the standards that they lived here, always winning, so it’s hard for them to see their club in this situation.

“About Kobbie, I can speak about Kobbie at every press conference. Sometimes it’s harder for me to speak after the game, so it’s always the same situation for me. All of them are the same.”

Kalvin Phillips (Manchester City)

Phillips joined the Blues from hometown club Leeds United in July 2022 for £42million but has barely featured under Pep Guardiola.

The 30-year-old midfielder has lost his place in the England squad and spent time on loan at West Ham and Ipswich in the past two seasons.

Having recovered from Achilles surgery, Phillips is keen to play regular first-team football again and has been linked with a January move to a club on the continent.

The problem is that he remains contracted to City until the summer of 2028 but talk of a switch to France, Germany or Spain continues to stir.

Raheem Sterling (Chelsea)

The former England winger is way down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge and is now being linked with moves to Crystal Palace and Leeds United.

Chelsea have put more emphasis on building their team around young players in recent times and Sterling’s days at Stamford Bridge appear numbered.

At 31, Sterling has plenty to offer and his availability would spark interest throughout the Premier League and beyond.

Brennan Johnson (Tottenham Hotspur)

Crystal Palace are also being linked with a January swoop for Johnson, who joined Tottenham from Nottingham Forest for £47.5million in September 2023.

Eagles boss Oliver Glasner is keen to add attacking reinforcements to his squad as they compete on four fronts this season.

Glasner has worked wonders at Selhurst Park and, having won the FA Cup last term, his men are challenging to finish in the Champions League places this season.

Johnson has struggled for regular game-time under Thomas Frank at Spurs and a move across the capital could potentially suit all parties.

Joel Piroe (Leeds United)

The prolific Dutchman helped Daniel Farke’s men to the Championship title last term and won the division’s Golden Boot after scoring 19 league goals.

Yet Piroe, signed from Swansea two summers ago, has barely featured this term and could be allowed to leave next month.

His availability to rival clubs may depend on Leeds bringing in a replacement for Piroe in January.
