NFL offensive prowess is all about execution. When teams execute well, they are efficient in gaining yardage and scoring points with the plays they run. Both pass and run game efficiency start with the line of scrimmage. Take a look at the next crop of offensive lineman set to walk the stage this April.
A pure left tackle at LSU, Campbell has potential to move around up front at the next level thanks to his excellent footwork.
Primary Pick: New England Patriots- Round 1, Pick 4
Secondary Pick: Jacksonville Jaguars- Round 1, Pick 5
If it weren't for a torn ACL last Fall, Josh Simmons would be the top offensive lineman in this class. Simmons has elite upside if the knee injury does not hold him back, he won't turn 23 until December. The Ohio State prospect has pliability and size that allow him to stay low and maintain leverage against talented edge rushers. He can shuffle in a basketball-like defensive chair to seal the outside on speed rushes and will not quit until the down is finished. Simmons ranked first among FBS lineman who played at least 300 snaps in pass blocking efficiency last season.
Simmons spent his first FBS campaign (2022) at San Diego State where he played right tackle. He played left tackle in 2023 and 2024 for the Buckeyes, who have a standard of excellence offensively.
Primary Pick: Pittsburgh Steelers- Round 1, Pick 21
Secondary Pick: Houston Texans- Round 1, Pick 25
Believe it or not, Armand Membou played tennis in high school. He is an incredible athlete considering his frame. Membou ran a 4.91 40-yard-dash and measured a 34 inch vertical at the combine. This gives him great range in zone schemes- his highest snap total of 2024 was on outside zone designed runs (166). Membou’s top criticism from scouts is he is inconsistent locking up the edge, despite his weight. All things considered, he was tied for fifth among all SEC lineman last year in pass blocking efficiency. He did not allow a quarterback hit from 2022-2024 at Mizzou.
Membou spent every FBS snap at right tackle. With his maneuverability, he will be a valuable asset regardless if lands at guard or tackle.
Primary Pick: Dallas Cowboys- Round 1, Pick 12
Secondary Pick: Seattle Seahawks- Round 1, Pick 18
Josh Conerly is easy on the eyes of an NFL scout. He has great footwork and twitch-like quickness with his hands and release off the ball. If anything, Conerly needs to gain weight and dive into his technique on film. He must improve his presence in reading opponents and the location of his grip. He plays stoutly, but combining forceful execution with his talent gives Conerly Pro Bowl upside. He is well versed in pass blocking with over 55% of his FBS snaps coming on such plays. His long arms and explosiveness offer citable potential in the run game.
Some would say Conerly is not ready to play in the NFL as a rookie. With the right coaching staff and veteran mentorship he could be starting come September.
Primary Pick: Green Bay Packers- Round 1, Pick 23
Secondary Pick: Houston Texans- Round 1, Pick 25
Kelvin Banks started at left tackle for three consecutive years at Texas. Over the 2,774 snaps he played, Banks allowed four sacks and four quarterback hits. His record against stiff FBS competition speaks for itself, but his short arms are a concern playing the exterior in the NFL. The repertoire of modern edge rushers has moves that will beat what Banks has on tape, but he moves exceptionally well, which opens the door for flexible usage. One of the notable pros of Banks’ game is his ability to block at the second level. He has potential to be very effective run blocking and setting up screens.
Banks’ athleticism bridged gaps in the FBS, but he must sustain his blocks longer. He will need to strengthen his hands to tune up for the NFL.
Primary Pick: Seattle Seahawks- Round 1, Pick 18
Secondary Pick: Pittsburgh Steerlers- Round 1, Pick 21
Donovan Jackson was a first-team Big Ten talent at guard in 2022 and 2023. He was forced to play left tackle last year in the back half of the season with the ACL injury to Josh Simmons. He did not allow a sack from week 11 all the way through the Buckeye’s National Championship victory over Notre Dame. Jackson was nearly immovable once he set up shop in the FBS and is celebrated for his technique.
Jackson is a plug and play guard for an NFL offense. His power unlocks running plays. He logged over 1,200 reps in the run game in Columbus.
Primary Pick: Tennessee Titans- Round 2, Pick 35
Secondary Pick: Las Vegas Raiders- Round 2, Pick 37
Grey Zabel is not afraid of the moment. He played his way onto the field at North Dakota State after starting low on depth chart in 2022. Last year, he anchored the Bison’s offensive line logging 961 snaps at left tackle on their way to the FCS National Championship. Zabel appears light and lacking in reach, but as an NFL prototype looks to be an excellent guard. He finished in the 93rd percentile with his pass blocking grade last season despite playing a division lower than his colleagues in this class.
Zabel is tall, poised and stays low on pass blocking reps. His mobility generates force downhill in the run game, where he competes at a high level.
Primary Pick: Cleveland Browns- Round 2, Pick 33
Secondary Pick: Jacksonville Jaguars- Round 2, Pick 36
Tyler Booker has admirable intangibles required of a true pro- he is smart and plays hard. He is oversized at guard considering his reach. This a supreme advantage blocking interior defenders in the A to B gaps, and over the ball if necessary. Alabama’s offense specialized on inside zone plays in the run game last season. This type of play is gaining momentum with respect to efficiency in the NFL. If there is any sort of slide on draft day for Booker, teams may be overlooking a difference-maker with respect to controlling possession.
Booker allowed 18 quarterback hurries from 2023-2024. When he is caught by surprise, he is not as stable as expected and must improve there in pass protection.
Primary Pick: Las Vegas Raiders- Round 2, Pick 37
Secondary Pick: San Francisco 49ers- Round 2, Pick 43
Tate Ratledge was an elite FBS guard in pass protection. He finished his career in the 98th percentile in pass blocking efficiency. Ratledge’s game is not pretty, but he is a player’s player with balance across his archetype. He got hurt last year but still managed 498 snaps returning in week 10 and finishing the season. Allowing two sacks from the interior in three full seasons in the SEC is not bad.
One knock on Ratledge is his age. He will turn 24 the weekend of the draft, which is interesting after an ankle surgery in the middle of 2024. He ran a 4.97 40-yard-dash at the combine.
Primary Pick: San Francisco 49ers- Round 3, Pick 75
Secondary Pick: Houston Texans- Round 3, Pick 79
Airontae Ersery certainly has an NFL body, but he must keep it lower or he will be taken advantage of on the edge in the league. He often pops straight up off the snap and shifts his weight forward. This sets up a push/pull move well for opponents. On the other hand, Ersery can move his 330 pounds well and will not move once he locks someone up. Technique will be the focus for his coaching staff.
Ersery allowed only one sack and one hit over 12 games in the Big Ten last year. He helped limit Abdul Carter to one of his worst games all season in week 13.
Primary Pick: Houston Texans- Round 3, Pick 89
Secondary Pick: Los Angeles Rams- Round 3, Pick 101
