After a brief dalliance with Jerry Jones over the then-vacant Dallas Cowboys job, Deion Sanders is doubling down on his University of Colorado job by adding an NFL legend to his staff.

Sanders’ name came up early during the Cowboys search for Mike McCarthy’s replacement last month, with the team ultimately promoting Brian Schottenheimer from offensive coordinator to the top job.

That means Sanders will continue at Colorado for a third year and look to build on the success he has brought to the programme that went 9-4 last season, two years after Sanders inherited a 1-11 team in 2022.

Sanders, who was voted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2011 after winning Super Bowls with the San Francisco 49ers and Dallas Cowboys in the 1990s, has now added another of his generation’s best players to his staff at the Buffaloes.

Former Indianapolis Colts and St Louis Rams star Marshall Faulk has been named as the team’s new running backs coach in what will be his first coaching post.

Faulk played 12 seasons in the NFL, winning Super Bowl XXXIV with the Rams in 2000 and retiring five years later with 12,279 career rushing yards and 6,875 receiving yards.

He will join the Colorado coaching team for the upcoming season after Sanders admitted that he does not want to coach in the NFL.

“I know it’s cute but I couldn’t coach pro ball,” Sanders told We Got Time Today, alongside his former Cowboys teammate Troy Aikman.

“The way they practice, the way they go about it, I couldn’t take it as a man and as a football enthusiast. I care about the game. The game is still providing for Troy and I. There’s no way I could allow that to happen on my watch. That would be tough.”
