Empower Field at Mile High becomes an AFC West battleground this Sunday, as the Kansas City Chiefs (5-4) clash with their bitter division rivals, the Denver Broncos (8-2).
On one side, the Chiefs, winners of three of the last six Super Bowls, are not only in danger of failing in their bid to win their tenth consecutive division title, but also at risk of not even making the playoffs.
On the other, the Denver Broncos and their elite defense have taken them on a seven-game winning streak - the first time they've done so since their Super Bowl-winning 2015 campaign.
With No. 13 facing No. 10 in our NFL power rankings, there's everything to play for between two teams that are fighting with the Los Angeles Chargers to claim the West.
Here's everything you need to know ahead of this must-watch showdown.
Kansas City’s offense isn't firing on all cylinders, but as any NFL fan knows, we should never count out Patrick Mahomes when the pressure is on.
The 30-year-old was a frontrunner for the MVP race a few weeks ago, but has fallen away with three interceptions in his last two games. He'll be desperate to put on a show and remind the league why he's the best quarterback in football.
Mahomes will lean on the speed of Xavier Worthy, the savvy play of future Hall of Fame tight end Travis Kelce, and his top target Rashee Rice in the passing game.
The rushing attack, usually featuring Isiah Pacheco and veteran Kareem Hunt, was short-handed in the Week 10 loss to the Bills. With Pacheco not practicing again on Thursday, it may mean Hunt is asked to carry the load.
Up front, Nik Bonitto, Zach Allen, and Jonathon Cooper have been the tip of the spear, helping Denver to a jaw-dropping and league-leading 46 sacks. On their current pace, Denver is on track to break the NFL record of 78, set by the Chicago Bears in 1984.
Bonitto had a sack the last time these two teams met, and he's likely to have another here.
The secondary is also a quarterback's worst nightmare, as, even without reigning Defensive Player of the Year Patrick Surtain at cornerback, they can still count on safety Talanoa Hufanga and Co. to get the job done.
Can Mahomes find a way to do what so few before him have and tame this Broncos' D? We'll find out on Sunday.
Despite the Broncos' excellent record, quarterback Bo Nix has faced intense scrutiny in recent weeks.
The criticism is justified. Despite playing behind an excellent offensive line, Nix struggled with accuracy and ranks 28th among all QBs with a meager completion percentage of 60.9%.
Denver's pass-catchers are a capable group, featuring Courtland Sutton, Troy Franklin, Marvin Mims, and tight end Evan Engram. They need to prioritise finding a way to get Sutton involved more than he has been recently.
At running back, leading rusher J.K. Dobbins was held out of practice with a foot injury on Thursday. That may mean rookie R.J. Harvey is tasked with leading the backfield against Kansas.
The Chiefs' defense, under the guidance of DC Steve Spagnuolo, knows how to win big games, but they haven't been at their usual best.
Up front, they'll be hoping that their leading pass rusher, George Karlaftis, can shake a thumb injury ahead of the game. He's a key part of their ability to collapse the pocket.
Nick Bolton and Drue Tranquill form an excellent duo at linebacker, while the emergence of Chamarri Conner has helped Trent McDuffie hold things down in the secondary.
Denver’s offense has done just enough to help them win many close games, but this Chiefs' D is a different beast. It's a matchup that should have us glued to our screens.
It's almost unfair that this game overlaps with another huge showdown between the Seahawks and Rams, but that's where either RedZone or Multiview - both available with a DAZN Game Pass subscription - come into their own, giving you the ability to follow multiple games simultaneously.
With the current DAZN offer, signing up for a subscription has just become easier. You can catch this game, and every game until the end of the season, for as little as £34.99. More details below.
Empower Field at Mile High, Denver, Colorado
Kansas leads 73-57-0, but the Broncos won their last meeting, securing a Wild Card spot in the 2024 playoffs after shutting out the Chiefs - who were resting their starters - 38-0.
It's brave to side against Denver, especially on home turf, but their offensive troubles are going to hurt them at some point - and I think it happens here.
