Jalen Carter suspended for one game but will be allowed to play in Week 2; also fined over $57,000
The NFL announced on Tuesday afternoon that Philadelphia Eagles DT Jalen Carter has been suspended for one game and fined $57,222 for spitting on Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott at the beginning of the game on Thursday evening in the league's opening game of the 2025-2026, which Eagles won 24-20. The league said in its statement below that Carter's suspension is considered served and will be allowed to play on Sunday when the Eagles travel to face the Kansas City Chiefs in a Super Bowl LIX rematch.
"Jalen Carter of the Philadelphia Eagles has been suspended without pay for one game for his act of unsportsmanlike conduct in last Thursday’s game against the Dallas Cowboys. Because Carter was disqualified before participating in a single play, the suspension is considered to have been served in Week 1 and he will forfeit his game check. The NFL Players Association has informed the NFL that Carter will not contest the discipline and has waived his right to appeal. He is eligible to participate in the club’s Week 2 game against the Kansas City Chiefs. League rules prohibiting unsportsmanlike conduct are of vital importance to everyone involved in the game. The NFL has been clear with players, clubs, and the NFLPA that it plans to place particular emphasis on sportsmanship this season."
ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the team and Carter's agent, Drew Rosenhaus, agreed the Eagles won't seek to use the suspension to void guarantees or look to take any of Carter's signing bonus. The fine is what Carter makes per game check.
