In a stunner late Tuesday afternoon, the Baltimore Ravens fired coach John Harbaugh after 18 seasons with the team. The dismissal comes two days after Tyler Loop missed a 44-yard field goal wide right to give the Pittsburgh Steelers a 26-24 victory to give them the AFC North title and a berth in the playoffs.
The 64-year-old Harbaugh won 193 games in his tenure with the Ravens and led the team to a Super Bowl XLVII victory in 2012.
Where will Harbaugh end up next? DAZN News gives three teams who could nab the future Hall of Fame coach.
According to a report from ESPN's Adam Schefter, Harbaugh was expected to be the favourite for the position. It's easy to see why Harbaugh would go to the Giants.
One, you get to coach in the biggest market in the United States. Two, Harbaugh would be able to coach Jaxson Dart, who had a solid rookie season and is seen as a star in the making. While he never won a Super Bowl with Lamar Jackson, Harbaugh did help coach him to win two NFL MVPs.
Along with Dart, the Giants have building blocks in wide receiver Malik Nabers, an all-world left tackle in Andrew Thomas, and dynamic pass rushers Kayvon Thibodeaux, Brian Burns, and rookie standout Abdul Carter.
This is the most ready team to make the postseason among all the organisations with head coach openings.
The Falcons were 8-9 and lost the NFC South due to tiebreakers. Their roster is full of young talent, led by Bijan Robinson and Drake London on offense. Then on defense, they are led by rookies James Pearce Jr. and Jalon Walker, Brandon Dorlus, and Zach Harrison.
While Michael Penix did suffer a torn ACL in the middle of the season, he should be back either later in training camp or early in the season. Penix has high upside and would learn a lot under Harbaugh's tutelage.
This is a long shot, but it could still happen because of minority owner Tom Brady. There are major stability issues with the Raiders, but with Brady having more of a say in this coaching search, Harbaugh will be inclined to have a conversation with him.
The Raiders have some upside. They have ten projected picks in the 2026 NFL Draft. Also, they have young stars in Ashton Jeanty, Brock Bowers and Maxx Crosby. Yes, Crosby is unhappy right now, but if Harbaugh came in, he'd be inclined to stay.
