The NFL continues to expand its international footprint as the league announced on Wednesday that it will host regular season games in Melbourne, Australia starting in 2026.

The Los Angeles Rams have been announced as the designated team for the 2026 game, which will be held at the Melbourne Cricket Ground and is part of a multiyear agreement to hold games in the Australian city.

“Expanding to Melbourne, Australia, a beautiful city with a rich sports history, underlines our ambitions to become a global sport and accelerate international growth,” NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said in a statement. “Together with the Victorian State Government, Visit Victoria and the Melbourne Cricket Ground, and with the Los Angeles Rams in 2026, we look forward to making history in what is an important market for the NFL and a significant next step in expanding our international footprint.”

Six cities outside the United States (London, Munich, Frankfurt, São Paulo, Mexico City and Toronto) have hosted NFL regular season games so far, with Berlin and Madrid scheduled to hold games in the 2025 season along with London. The league can now schedule up to eight international games per season, and will announce further details about the first Melbourne game, including the Rams' opponent, at a later date.
