The NFL announced on Thursday that Baltimore Ravens star quarterback Lamar Jackson will not be punished by the league for an incident during their 41-40 loss to the Buffalo Bills on Sunday night at Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park, N.Y.
"The matter has been addressed by the club and there is no further action from the league," NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy said in a statement.
The altercation occurred after Jackson connected on a sensational 29-yard touchdown to the newest Raven, DeAndre Hopkins, late in the third quarter. A fan, sporting a Bills jersey, then hit Hopkins on the back of the helmet. Moments later, the fan did the same to Jackson. Unlike Hopkins, Jackson fought back with a two-handed push, which sent the fan to the ground.
Because of the interaction with Hopkins and Jackson, the fan was immediately ejected from Highmark Stadium and is "indefinitely banned from Bills and NFL stadiums," a Bills official told ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Jackson delivered an apology during his weekly session with the media at the Ravens team facility and sent a message to fans who attend games.
"Just chill next time, Jackson said. "You can talk trash and stuff but keep your hands to yourself.
"Stuff like that shouldn't be happening. It's not WWE. We're playing football out here. So just keep it to football. I know guys are going to talk trash. I know the opposing team is going to talk trash. Keep it that way. But keep your hands and keep your objects to yourself."
