Which teams are playing in Madrid?

The Miami Dolphins (3-7) will be the designated home team in the Spanish capital. They have endured their struggles this season, but have won two of their last three games, including a shock 30-13 victory over the Buffalo Bills in Week 10.

Their opponents, the Washington Commanders (3-7), have struggled without their talismanic quarterback, Jayden Daniels, and wide receiver Terry McLaurin for much of the season.

Who are the star players to watch?

Miami Dolphins

Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa has been wildly inconsistent. He is tied for seventh in passing touchdowns (17) but also leads the league in interceptions (13).

Not knowing which version of the 27-year-old will turn up from week to week should make this an intriguing game for neutral fans.

The unpredictable nature of the Dolphins' passing game hasn't affected dynamic wideout Jaylen Waddle, who leads the team with 46 receptions for 670 yards and five touchdowns.

At running back, DeVon Achane has become a top-five NFL running back, punishing opposing teams with his dual-threat abilities. He's fourth among all running backs in rushing yards and third in receiving yards.

On defense, Jordyn Brooks has been busier than any other player in the league and leads the NFL with 105 tackles.

Edge rusher Bradley Chubb will be keen to build on his big game - and sack - against the Bills last weekend.

Washington Commanders

Marcus Mariota, once the second overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, will replace Daniels, who will miss the game with a dislocated elbow.

He's been uneven in reprieve, but is coming off his best game of the season against the Detroit Lions in Week 10, where he finished 16-of-22 for 213 yards, with two passing touchdowns and zero interceptions.

Undrafted running back Jacory "Bill" Croskey-Merritt, who flashed promise to start the year, has been kept under four yards per carry in his last five games. He'll be desperate to buck that trend here.

Injuries at the wide receiver spot have plagued the Commanders all year, but wideout Deebo Samuel and tight end Zach Ertz have the talent to help Mariota get the job done.

Defensively, the ageless Bobby Wagner and Frankie Luvu provide Washington with a pair of linebackers with the experience and versatility to stifle opponents on their day.

The big question for this defense is whether they can make Tua uncomfortable in the pocket without the injured Dorance Armstrong. And can they find a way to stop Achane?

What's at stake for the Dolphins and Commanders?

There are jobs on the line for Miami. General manager Chris Grier has already been fired. Tagovailoa and head coach Mike McDaniel are also feeling the heat.

They've won two of their last three, and must continue that momentum if they are to reassure the fans and owner Stephen Ross that they should be part of the team's plans in 2026.

Perhaps the feel-good factor of beating the Bills gives them the impetus to continue their winning ways in Madrid? The players were on a high after that game.

The Commanders may not have given up hope on securing a Wild Card spot, but the reality is that their playoff hopes are hanging by a thin thread.

They've lost their last four games by huge margins, and another loss here would surely make the postseason an impossibility even if Daniels returns quicker than expected.

Which stadium is hosting the NFL Madrid Game?

The impressive Santiago Bernabéu will host this year's game.

The stadium is the home of the iconic football team Real Madrid and can hold up to 78,297 fans.
