The NFL announced on Tuesday afternoon that Carolina Panthers safety Tre'von Moehrig has been suspended for one game without pay for punching San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Jauan Jennings during the latter's 20-9 victory on Monday Night Football.
Moehrig will miss Sunday's game as the Panthers take on the Los Angeles Rams.
"Carolina Panthers safety Tre’von Moehrig has been suspended without pay for one game for an act of unsportsmanlike conduct during Monday’s game against the San Francisco 49ers," the NFL said in a release sent to DAZN News.
"During the fourth quarter, Moehrig punched San Francisco wide receiver Jauan Jennings at the end of a play, violating Rule 12, Section 3, Article 1, which applies to “any act which is contrary to the generally understood principles of sportsmanship,” including, among others, “throwing a punch, or a forearm, or kicking at an opponent.”
"Moehrig will be eligible to return to the Panthers’ active roster on Monday, Dec. 1, following the team’s Nov. 30 game against the Los Angeles Rams.
"Under the Collective Bargaining Agreement, Moehrig may appeal the suspension. Any appeal will be heard and decided upon by either Derrick Brooks, Ramon Foster, or Jordy Nelson, the hearing officers jointly appointed and compensated by the NFL and NFLPA to decide appeals of on-field player discipline."
Jennings didn't react during the game to the punch from Moehrig. But after the game, Jennings hit Moehrig with an open-handed right cross to the face mask. The 49ers wideout wasn't punished by the league.
