Antoine Semenyo has played two matches for Manchester City and he's already got two goals for his new club.

And it was very nearly three.

Semenyo led the Sky Blues to a 2-0 victory over Newcastle United on Tuesday, as the teams met at St. James' Park for the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-finals. The former Bournemouth attacker scored Man City's first goal in the 53rd minute and put the ball into the net a second time 10 minutes later, but a lengthy VAR intervention led to Semenyo's potential second goal of the match being called off due to a slight offside by Erling Haaland.

Regardless, the 26-year-old has made quite the impression on his new teammates after scoring in his debut — a 10-1 rout of Exeter City in the FA Cup — and again on Tuesday, with Man City captain Bernardo Silva gushing about the club's newest player after their latest victory.

"He looks not just a very good player but also a very good guy which fits right in with the team," Silva told ITV Sport. "He is a fantastic guy who wants to help us. Hopefully he can keep going."

Amid Silva's admiration for Semenyo, the midfielder also expressed frustration that his newest teammate couldn't walk away from Tuesday's match with two goals instead of just one, especially given that Newcastle will have 90 more minutes to try to level things in the second leg.

"I don't know what to say, I don't want to say too much because we know how these things work," Silva said of the disallowed goal. "I saw it, it looked really close to me but it is what it is. It is so frustrating because the last time we came here we also had a lot of decisions go against us.

"Even though we won it was just frustrating to be honest."

For his part, Semenyo proclaimed his pleasure at his first few days of being a Man City player, calling the environment at the team "perfect," but he also shared Silva's exasperation for his overturned goal

"The second goal should have counted," Semenyo told Sky Sports. "The referee came and spoke to me and told me what was going on. It is what it is."
