Carlos Adames has retained his WBC middleweight title despite his bout with Hamzah Sheeraz after the bout ended in a split draw.

Unfortunately for Sheeraz, it was a fight which he struggled to impose himself with Adames managing to make the contest a tough watch.

A tense opening round saw Adames and Sheeraz give very little away, there were a few left hands thrown by Sheeraz, but none that made any significant inroads.

Adames was looking to command the ring in round two and subtly forced Sheeraz back towards the ropes with small steps. Sheeraz’s defence held firm, but Adames managed to land right-left combination which was followed shortly by a right hand to close the second.

Round four saw both men land right hands, but Sheeraz closed out the round on top. Gliding around the ring, a Sheeraz combination landed successfully with Adames struggling to get a foothold.

Momentum began to swing towards Adames once he started to hit Sheeraz’s body and in the eighth an Adames right hand hurt the British fighter who had lost control of the contest.

Adames was on top until the final bell with frustration growing in Sheeraz's corner with his team and promoter Frank Warren urging him to let his hands go.

In the end, one judge scored the contest 115-114 in Sheeraz's favour, another scored it 118-110 to Adames whilst the third judge scored the contest a 114-114 draw.
