I rescored the first Eubank Jr. vs. Benn fight, did the judges get the correct result?

The eagerly anticipated rematch between Chris Eubank Jr. and Conor Benn is nearly here.

35 years after their fathers put on the first of their two thrillers, the two sons staged an all-British classic of their own as they battled it out over 12 rounds in a superb contest at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in April.

As they went to the scorecards, it was Eubank Jr. who prevailed by a score of 116-112 with all three the judges and he upheld his family name in the process.

All eyes will be on North London again on Saturday as they return to the same venue to do it all again live on DAZN PPV and it is expected to be just as entertaining the second time around.

I had it the same as the judges on fight night but with many close rounds, I watched the fight again to see if I saw it any differently seven months after their ferocious first encounter.

Round 1

The size difference between the two was instantly noticeable, with Eubank Jr. looking much the bigger man.

As expected, Benn came out swinging and while he did land a decent right hand in the middle of the round, it was the more consistent work from Eubank Jr., especially his jab, that caught the eye.

Round 2

A better round from Benn as he feinted well and found a home for some of his bigger shots.

The jab of Eubank Jr. worked well again but the more effective aggression of Benn may have just been enough for him to claim the round.

Round 3

Benn lands the first really serious blow of the contest as he shakes Eubank Jr. with a hard left hook which forced the older man to hold on in the clinch.

Benn landed a hard right hand towards the end of the session to complete a good round for him.

Round 4

Eubank Jr. had success with an early combination and a big uppercut midway through the round, while Benn found the target with a good right hand later on.

Atight round but Eubank Jr.'s work in the first half of the session may have been enough.

Round 5

The pair exchanged heavy blows early on but it was Eubank Jr. who was able to create some space for himself and have more success as the round went on.

Round 6

The pace slowed a little in this round and there wasn’t much between them, but Eubank Jr. looked the slightly busier man and he worked his jab very well again.

Round 7

A fast start from Benn as he landed two good right hands, although his eagerness then saw him walk straight on to a right uppercut.

Great back-and-forth action but Eubank Jr. was landing the harder shots with more regularity.

Round 8

Benn increased the volume here and his fast start was mirrored by his strong finish to the session, which ended with them both trading at close quarters on the ropes.

Benn did more damage and appeared to hurt his man in the final half a minute, but Eubank Jr. had success in the middle part of the round.

Round 9

They picked up where they left off in the previous round with another frantic session.

Benn staggered Eubank Jr. with a heavy right hand on a couple of occasions and also opens up nasty cut over his opponent’s right eye.

Both men are tiring but still deliver another ferocious round. Eubank Jr. is busy but Benn works the body well and also rocks his opponent with a hard one-two, which earns him the round for me.

As Benn appears to be tiring quicker now, the superior work rate and accuracy of Eubank Jr. catches the eye and appear to give him the edge in another enthralling round.

Round 12

They both leave it all in the ring in a superb final session, with Benn hurt early in the round but he continues to throw plenty of leather.

Benn wobbled on a few occasions and the cleaner work of Eubank Jr. see him close the show in style. Whan an end to a superb contest.

My final score: 115-113 to Chris Eubank Jr.

I had the same winner as I did when watching it live but this time I had it closer and there were several tight rounds. It all bodes well for another classic in the rematch on Saturday.
