Conor Benn gave Chris Eubank Jr. credit for winning their initial fight in April, but he says things are going to be different when they run it back on Saturday.
Benn and Eubank are set to meet at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this weekend in a rematch of their epic 12-round battle back in April. Eubank, the older and naturally heavier fighter of the two, earned a unanimous decision victory over Benn in their first meeting, and Benn believes that his rival used his size to his advantage in that bout.
Additionally, Eubank was well prepared physically and tactically, but according to Benn a heavy price was still paid by the victorious combatant.
"You know, he's resilient, he's strong, he's athletic, he's got good workrate on him," Benn said on the DAZN broadcast of Wednesday's open workouts. "I feel like I took his soul that night. I took a big part of it, and I'm gonna take what's left of it Saturday.
"But ultimately, it takes two to tango. That fight wouldn't have been what it was without him."
The 29-year-old Benn has had over six months to analyse the first fight and to implement his experiences into his training ahead of Saturday's rematch.
For Benn, the size difference was a major factor in Eubank's victory but the time inbetween fights has given him the opportunity to become more accustomed to the extra weight needed for these bouts — Benn moved up from 147 lbs to 160 ahead of April's contest and has remained there for this weekend's clash.
With both men now on equal footing, Benn feels he's better prepared for his foe.
"You can feel the difference in there," Benn explained. "I could feel the size difference [in Eubank]. He absorbs the shots more, he's more resilient — if he was a welterweight, this would be no contest. This would be no match."
