Darren Till’s first shot at boxing was successful as he was able to produce a six-round TKO of Anthony Taylor in his MF & DAZN: X Series debut in January.
The former UFC star will now look to make it 2-0 in the sweet science when he clashes with another former UFC fighter in Darren Stewart at Valiant Live in Derby, United Kingdom, and live on DAZN, on Friday night.
Will Till get the job done? Or will he fall victim to the hands of Stewart?
With the matchup rapidly approaching, DAZN News analyzes who has the edge heading into their bout?
A look at Darren Till’s win over Anthony Taylor in his MF & DAZN: X Series debut from January shows that the former UFC star pressures off the front foot well and stalks forward effectively behind the jab, though he sometimes abandons a high, tight guard during the process.
He also possesses a better than average uppercut, which he cranked and detonated onto Taylor as part of his punch portfolio leading to victory.
Darren Stewart, on the other hand, changes levels with agility and has pop to his punch as well.
Though neither man is a pure boxer, Till has the edge here … slightly.
Till did drop Taylor three times to secure a sixth-round TKO victory in January, perhaps reminding himself of his own power.
The last time that Till produced a knockout victory dates all the way back to October 2017, when he finished an aging Donald Cerrone by first-round TKO (punches) in an October 2017 UFC Performance of the Night. That was also Till’s second knockout win in the UFC.
Meanwhile, Stewart produced his last knockout win back in November 2023 via first-round TKO of Antonio Zovak.
While two of Stewart’s last four wins came by the way of knockout, the quality of his opponents are not of the perceived quality — and certainly names — that Till has faced.
Again, a slim edge to Till.
When it comes to mental warfare, Till is the A-side and bigger name. That much is certain.
He also perhaps has some confidence getting a boxing win under his belt.
Though all this could change in a split-second, Till enters the ring with the mental edge in tow.
Till has the 3-0 edge across three key categories here, though that does not mean his victory is a foregone conclusion by any means.
As a former UFC welterweight world title challenger, having trained in the mixed martial arts, Till has long ways to go in proving his isolated sweet science skills and worth over rounds of work.
An impressive victory here will help toward that.
