Following Edgar Berlanga’s dominant win over Jason Quigley in New York City, the attention switched to what’s next for the Puerto Rican star.

Berlanga demonstrated his power on his maiden fight under the Matchroom promotional banner as he dropped Quigley multiple times, but he had to settle for a wide points verdict after 12 rounds.

Straightaway, Berlanga, and his promoter, Eddie Hearn, were faced with questions on who will be in the opposite corner the next time Berlanga fights.

With 168lbs currently stacked with a number of solid opportunities for Berlanga, Hearn identified one fight that would stand out for DAZN, the platform that his Matchroom stable perform on.

“John Ryder is a very tough fight. You saw him go 12 with Canelo Alvarez,” said Hearn when speaking with FightHype.

“You’ve got Caleb Plant. You’ve got obviously [David] Benavidez, and you’ve got [David] Morrell. You’ve got loads of super middleweights. There’s the other side of the street if that’s what you want to call it, but we don’t care really.

“We’re doing our own thing and you know that the DAZN will be very keen on Munguia against Berlanga. Munguia does great numbers, and so does Berlanga. It’s just a tremendous fight.”
