Ex-Fabio Wardley rival reveals how he can shock Joseph Parker

Frazer Clarke believes his former rival Fabio Wardley and Joseph Parker will deliver an “edge of your seat” thriller when they face each other on October 25, live on DAZN.

Parker is set to put his interim WBO heavyweight title on the line against the unbeaten Wardley next month, with the winner in line to get a shot at undisputed champion Oleksandr Usyk.

Parker has previously held the full WBO title and has the clear edge in experience over Wardley, and bookmakers have made him the early favourite for the contest.

Clarke is not ruling out Wardley, though. The two men were involved in a modern-day classic when they fought to a draw last March before Wardley produced a devastating first-round knockout in the rematch seven months later.

Having shared the ring with Wardley twice, Clarke knows the quality he brings and feels his fellow Brit has a chance of upsetting the odds due to his punching power.

“He can really bang and he’s tough and he’s gritty. That’s definitely his strengths. But then again, so is Joseph Parker. Very tough, very durable, very good boxing brain.

“It’s a classic fight. It’s going to have everyone on the edge of their seat, I can already see it. Will Fabio be losing the fight again and come back? Or is Joseph Parker too cute, too experienced and knows too much? (It’s a) you’re on the edge of your seat kind of decision.”

Wardley proved his mental resilience in his last outing when he trailed Australia’s Justis Huni on the scorecards before producing a stunning one-punch knockout in the 10th round.

He has won 19 professional fights with 18 of those coming inside the distance, and the Clarke draw is the only blemish on his record to date.

Meanwhile, Parker has lost three of his 39 fights and was stopped by Britain’s Joe Joyce in the 11th round of their clash in 2022.

Wardley may fancy his chances of devising a similar gameplan to finish strongly against the Kiwi in their bout at the O2 Arena.

And the stakes could hardly be higher, with both fighters knowing a win will put them on the brink of a shot at heavyweight glory.
