In a shocking development on Tuesday, the Dallas Cowboys released two-time Pro Bowl cornerback Trevon Diggs with one game left in the regular season and the playoffs starting on Saturday, Jan. 10.
The 27-year-old will go through waivers. If no team claims Diggs, he will become a free agent. Whether a team claims Diggs is unknown. But if a team claims Diggs, they would be on the hook for the $472,000 he is due in base salary for Week 18, plus $58,823 if he is on the active roster.
Will any team with an eye on Super Bowl LX take a flyer and bring Diggs into the fold?

The biggest game of the season is on Saturday, with the Seahawks as the winner, not only winning the NFC West but also becoming the No. 1 seed in the NFC. But their secondary is a weakness. They rank 25th in pass defense, allowing 235.6 yards per game and 29 touchdowns through the air in 16 games.
In Sunday's 42-38 win over the Bears, the 49ers' defense allowed 31 points.
Bringing in Diggs would help alleviate some of the strain on their front seven.
Looking at the last six games where they have only allowed 103 points, you'd think they wouldn't need any help. But the Jaguars' pass defense still ranked 23rd against the pass. Games in the postseason are won on the defensive side of the ball.
The Jaguars need someone to help stabilize that part of the defense, and Diggs more than fits the bill.
Like the 49ers and Jaguars, the pass defense has been a sore spot. They rank 22nd against the pass, including allowing 303 passing yards and three touchdowns on Sunday to Brock Purdy. Is Diggs the answer? No clue, but he's more than a suitable option to help Jalen Johnson, and a shaky set of cornerbacks and safeties are primarily looking for turnovers and not looking to shut down wide receivers.
It's better to have Diggs on the roster instead on the outside looking in when the Bears are going to be favorites in some circles of heading to the Super Bowl.
