To prepare for the heaviest hitter of his career, Jake Paul has enlisted a trio of big punchers.
Paul will take on two-time former unified world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua next month in Miami, with Joshua holding a sizable height and weight advantage over "The Problem Child."
To get ready to step into the ring with the massive Briton, Paul has chosen three sparring partners to help replicate the giant obstacle he'll face on Dec.19.
On Friday, Paul posted on Instagram a photo of himself in the gym alongside Jared "Big Baby" Anderson, Frank Sanchez and Lawrence Okolie, with the crossover star cutting a noticeably smaller figure than his sparring partners.
The three fighters flanking Paul have varying degrees of success in the heavyweight division, with Anderson and Sanchez having previously held various regional heavyweight titles and Okolie having moved up to the weight class last year after holding world titles at cruiserweight and bridgerweight, but what they all present is a physical presence that can replicate that of Joshua's.
Okolie recently expressed interest in training with Paul ahead of the latter's upcoming fight, stating that he could help the American adjust to sharing a ring with a bigger boxer.
âI want to go out there to Puerto Rico. What I donât want to happen for him is he gets absolutely destroyed in a round or whatever if AJ turns it on. I want him to have a little feeling of what itâs like to be in there with a world class heavyweight beforehand,â Okolie said.
âIâm not going to sit here and pretend that itâs not a crazy difference in size and skill. But you know what, crazier things have happened."
It seems as though Paul has seen the logic behind Okolie's words, and after his recent sparring sessions he'll at least have a sense of how physically imposing a top-class heavyweight can be.
