Having hardly broken a sweat after disposing of Uisma Lima in roughly two minutes Saturday night, Jaron 'Boots' Ennis didn't hesitate to let the boxing world know who he wants to fight next.
"It's going to happen next," Ennis told DAZN's Chris Mannix about fighting Vergil Ortiz Jr. "I know he's got his fight coming up. He's focused on his fight. If he don't win, I'll fight [Erickson] Lubin, I'll fight the winner of that, but I want Vergil Ortiz next."
With his first-round TKO of Lima, Ennis (35-0, 31 KOs) became the new WBA interim super welterweight champion.
Ortiz (23-0, 21 KOs), the WBC interim 154-pound champion, fights Lubin on November 8, live on DAZN. As long as Ortiz wins that bout, Ennis is confident that they will have their showdown early in 2026.
However, if that fight does not pan out for whatever reason, Ennis shared some other names as possible opponents.
"If we can't get Vergil Ortiz next, I heard that baby cub was calling me out too, [Jermell] Charlo, he could get it next," Ennis continued. "[Sebastian] Fundora. What's his name, Bakhram [Murtazaliev], the IBF champion, he could get it. Everybody at 154 could get it. Xander [Zayas], he could get it.
Ennis added: "Anybody at 154 ... I'm belt chasing. This is my division, 154 is mine! I'm on tour."
Zayas, the reigning undefeated WBO super welterweight world champion, has talked with DAZN News at length about clashing with 'Boots,' saying it would make for "an excellent fight."
Ennis' Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn yearns to line opponents up for 'Boots,' beginning with Ortiz.
Oscar De La Hoya, Ortiz' promoter at Golden Boy Promotions, used the night to declare that his charge is the best of the super welterweight class.
