Tonight, American Marcus Browne will end two years of inactivity will come to an end when he takes on Brandon Glanton in a cruiserweight contest in the main event of a fight card promoted by Amir Khan.
The pair will go head-to-head in Lagos, Nigeria and it will be broadcast live on DAZN .Â
For Browne, this will be his first outing since beating Adrian Taylor by unanimous decision in 2023, but two years prior, Browne found himself in the ring against one of boxing's most fearsome names, Artur Beterbiev.Â
The IBF and WBC light heavyweight champion was making a defence of his belts at the Bell Centre in Montreal, and had knocked out all 16 of his previous opponents.Â
If Browne was to topple Beterbiev, he had to try and impose himself early on whilst also not being drawn into trading blows with a superior puncher.Â
The opening two rounds were positive for Browne. He was throwing the jab with little coming back, but this was not much of a surprise as Beterbiev was never afraid to concede a few rounds before getting to work.Â
The third session saw Beterbiev land his first meaningful shots and Browne was taking the bait of being drawn into frequent exchanges.Â
Beterbiev continued to get into his groove in round four which saw him pick up a serious cut after an unintentional clash of heads. As the blood flowed, Beterbiev was enjoying himself as the Montreal crowd urged him on.Â
A one-two almost floored Browne in the sixth and then in round seven, a Beterbiev left to the body, followed by a perfect right hand, knocked down Browne for the first time in the fight. It was the beginning of the end for the American.Â
Beterbiev was now chasing his opponent around the ring and in the ninth landed the winning punch. A left uppercut saw Browne on the canvas for the final time, and as he attempted to convince the referee that he was still fit to continue while breathing with desperation, the fight was called off.
A Beterbiev drenched in blood triumphed after managing to negate a positive start from Browne.Â
The former world title challenger will be hoping a win over Glanton tonight, live on DAZN , will kickstart a period of frequent activity after what has been a quiet couple of years and just maybe a challenge for world honours will present itself in the not too distant future.Â
