The fiery build-up to Oscar Duarte vs Kenneth Sims Jr is nearing an end, with the super lightweights set to square off Saturday, live on DAZN.
Both men feel that they are on the path towards glory in the division, with both enjoying a hot run of form heading into their encounter this weekend.
This has led to friction between the fighters, with their paths set to collide in Chicago as they each look to continue their respective climb up the ladder at 140 lbs.
For Sims, the opportunity is there to take another step on his journey and to quiet a rival at the same time — with the latter being especially enticing given the words that have been exchanged between the fighters.
"This was one of my top three goals - the be the best, the make money to take care of my family, and to fight at home and bring a big fight home to Chicago,' Sims said at a press conference this week. "It's a dream come true. I am ready to put on a show for my city."
Sims holds a particular disdain for insinuations made by Duarte and his camp last year regarding a knee injury sustained by "Bossman," and he looks forward to ending the animosity inside the ring.
"I didn't like the trolling that his team did last year," Sims said. "It takes a lot to get to me. He was bothering me, so I was bothering him. We have to fight anyways.
"We're both ranked top five in the world. The best vs. the best. But this is my city, so I am going to whoop his a—."
