Ricky Hatton has confirmed that his son Campbell Hatton has retired from the sport of boxing at the age of 24, with the lightweight becoming a solar panel installer.

Hatton Jr retires with a record of 14 wins from 16 fights, with his last two bouts ending in defeat by James Flint.

Coincidentally, Hatton Sr will restart his professional boxing career later this year, when the former two-division world champion takes on fellow 46-year-old Eisa Al Dah.

In a wider interview with Boxing Now, Hatton revealed that his son would no longer be boxing, stating that Campbell had lost ‘his mojo’ following two defeats and events in his personal life.

"Campbell won't be fighting again,” Hatton started. “He didn't have a lot of amateur experience, gave it a go in the amateurs and then went pro, fought for the Area title and got beat. I thought he lost to be fair, then he fought the same lad straight away after, thought he won the second one but didn't get the decision.

"They were both very close fights, he lost a little bit of his mojo and a few things went wrong [outside the ring], sadly lost one of his best friends in Justin who passed away at 27, went through a bit of a [tough] time, his heart wasn't in it.

"I told him 'listen son, you should be very proud of yourself. You've given it a go but if you've lost your mojo, you need to get out of this game. You can play any other sport but you can't play boxing'. I advised him and now he's doing solar panels, gone into another job, he's a grafter and worked hard but it just wasn't for Campbell."

Having signed for Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom promotion at the end of 2020, Hatton made a promising but slightly inauspicious start to his life as a professional boxer. Initially trained by uncle and former European champion Matthew Hatton, Campbell would also be trained by Ben Davidson and Barry Smith.

His first four wins all came via decision, a run of victories culminating in a controversial result against Sonni Martinez on the undercard of Anthony Joshua’s first defeat by Oleksandr Usyk in September 2021.

Boos rang out from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium when Hatton was announced as the winner. The lightweight quickly bounced back with a maiden stoppage win out in Spain, with the Mancunian going on to stretch the unbeaten start to his career to 14 wins.

That presented Hatton with the opportunity fight for the Central Area lightweight title against James Flint in March 2024, the reigning champion inflicting the first loss upon Hatton’s career.

A rematch towards the end of 2024 yielded another unanimous decision loss, and despite appointing his father as trainer at the start of 2025, Campbell has decided to call it a day.
