Terence Crawford must rate Canelo Alvarez highly in the all-time stakes after a recent interview saw the Nebraska man compare his forthcoming rival to some of the greats of the game.

On September 13, Crawford will jump up to super-middleweight, the heaviest weight of his career, as he looks to cause a small upset against the Mexican icon in Las Vegas

After defeating Errol Spence in 2023 to become undisputed ruler at 147lbs , Crawford made it clear two years ago that his goal was to fight Canelo.

Last year, he leaped to super-welterweight to dethrone Israil Madrimov and now he must climb another two weight classes to take on Canelo.

The fight is set to be one of the biggest boxing events of 2025 and recently, when speaking to The Ring, Crawford was asked to take part in a game which involved boxers who are better than Canelo.

Crawford would be asked the name of a high-profile fighter, and he had to speak out if he believed that boxer was better than Canelo.

He did that on three occasions and declared that he thought Oscar De La Hoya, Dmitry Bivol, and Floyd Mayweather were better fighters than Canelo.

Crawford remained silent when Carl Froch and Chris Eubank Jr were mentioned, but there was some surprise when he remained unmoved when the names of Manny Pacquiao and Bernard Hopkins were read out.

So, as it stands, Crawford has named three fighters who he thinks are on a higher level than Canelo. Can he become another later this year?
