Misfits makes its return with one of the most talent-stacked shows they have ever produced – headlined by two former UFC stars, Darren Till and Luke Rockhold, going head-to-head on August 30.
Misfits is exactly what it says on the box, shows comprised of unlikely match-ups between every type of influencer and, more recently, athletes with combat sports experience.
Because of this, the fans have seen some spectacular and devastating knockouts since the organisation’s inception. So in honour of Misfits’ return, here are five of the best knockouts we have ever seen.
MF & DAZN X Series 4, January 2023 – KSI made his return to the ring after the hugely successful first instalment of Misfits, which saw him defeat two opponents on the same night – Luis Pineda and Brandon Scott AKA ‘Swarmz’.
He came up against Faze Temper AKA Thomas Oliveira. Oliveira was coming off an impressive first-round knockout win, and it was thought he would offer a stiff challenge for KSI, who was looking to set up a fight with Jake Paul or Tommy Fury.
The pair came out cautiously at the beginning of the round, and Oliveira landed a couple of sharp counter shots as KSI tried to shoot into range on his taller opponent.
This was also the debut of the karate-esque bladed stance that we saw him use prominently in a losing effort against Tommy Fury.
He dropped his hands and, from way out of range, blitzed a visibly confused Oliveira, landing an overhand right followed up by a left hook that flattened the famous YouTuber only two minutes into the contest.
MF & DAZN X Series 10, October 2023 – Two of the most feared and avoided fighters on the Misfits roster, Slim Albaher and Nathaniel Bustamante AKA ‘Salt Papi’, clashed in an unforgettable slugfest on the undercard of KSI vs Tommy Fury.
From the opening bell, it was obvious both men wanted a statement knockout with Bustamante taking the front foot and looking to explode into range.
The pace was high throughout the contest and had taken its toll on both fighters; the footwork and jabs had all but disappeared as they exchanged volleys of heavy combinations by the third round.
Slim took hold of the fight in the fourth round, landing heavy right hands that stunned Bustamante, who was treading water.
But the action swung once again, and ‘Slim’ found himself on the ropes and, from seemingly nowhere, detonated two crunching right hands that floored the Filipino, who bravely returned to his feet.
The referee called an end to proceedings shortly afterwards as Bustamante was unable to defend himself. Albaher claimed the TKO and became the man to beat on Misfits.
MF & DAZN X Series 4, January 2023 – ‘Salt Papi’ announced himself as a force to be reckoned with in the influencer boxing scene against Josh Brueckner on the undercard of KSI vs Faze Temper.
The Filipino has surprised many with his natural aptitude for boxing, claiming two comfortable wins in his first two fights and took a step to fight a much bigger and also undefeated fighter in Brueckner.
Bustamante spent much of the first round goading and taunting an uncomfortable-looking Brueckner. They shared brief exchanges and ‘Salt Papi’ looked the much more polished boxer, countering well from the back foot and looking explosive going forward.
The second round brought more of the same – the American pawed with his lead hand, unwilling to dive to the inside – aware of the power that his opponent possessed.
Bustamante looked languid, and with just over a minute gone in the second round, Brueckner lunged into range and got caught with arguably the best single-shot knockout in the history of misfits.
“Salt Papi” took a half step out of range to draw his man in and released a vicious counter left hand from the southpaw stance that floored Brueckner, who would not return to his feet before the count.
MF & DAZN X Series 20, January 2025 – Darren Till put on one of the most dominant and technically polished performances we have seen on Misfits to dispatch of one of their prized fighters – Anthony Taylor.
This fight marked a tangible step up in quality of boxing for Misfits, as they pit two experienced combat sports athletes against one another for the first time.
Till boxed carefully and to a clear game plan – draw Taylor in and throw the rear uppercut as he tended to drop his head when he approached.
He used crafty feints and footwork to draw reactions out of Taylor and capitalise on the gaps with an impressive variety of combinations.
Taylor looked lost and could not find success with anything other than single pot shots off the back foot.
The beginning of the end was marked in the fourth round when Till landed flush on the chin of Taylor, putting the American on his back. He got back to his feet and fought bravely on until the sixth round.
Till landed another uppercut that dropped Taylor for the second time, then it was déjà vu as the same shot stumbled Taylor again – Till followed up with four shots to drop Taylor and end the fight.
MF & DAZN X Series, January 2024 – UK TikTok star Ed Matthews entered the ring against a mystery opponent that was revealed to be Misfits cult hero Luis Pineda.
Pineda had the experience advantage over Matthews, and it showed in the fight. The Brit came out all guns blazing and had exhausted himself before the end of the first round.
This left him vulnerable, and the long frame of Pineda caught up with the tiring TikToker, dropping him at the end of the first round with four straight shots. Matthews returned to his feet and began wildly swinging to close out the round.
The Mexican kept his composure as Matthews went wild once again at the start of the second round.
After surviving the initial onslaught, the man in front of Pineda had his hands down and his mouth open, having given everything to trying to get an early stoppage.
Pineda pounced on his man and produced perhaps the most iconic knockout seen on Misfits, knocking Matthews out of the ring and onto one of the judges’ tables.
