A pair of teams coming off disappointment will attempt to shake off the negative emotions and end their CONCACAF Nations League campaign with a victory as Canada and the United States square off Sunday in the third-place match.

Originally seen as likely opponents in the final, the North American neighbours will instead play in the consolation game after both suffered defeat on Thursday. The Americans faced a depleted Panama side in the semi-finals and were stunned late thanks to a Cecelio Waterman goal that went viral for the player's pitchside celebration with Thierry Henry.

A few hours later, the Canadians ran into a stodgy Mexican defence that kept Alphonso Davies and Co. at bay despite Canada holding much more possession and attempting more shots.

Now, amid icy political relations between the countries, Canada and the USA face off for the second time in six months, with the Canadians having won that September meeting.
