Three replacements for Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner after confirming summer exit

Friday, January 16, will be a day to forget for Crystal Palace fans who were hit with two pieces of disappointing news.

First came confirmation of club captain Marc Guehi leaving the club to join Manchester City

Then, during his pre-match press conference for the team's game with Sunderland, manager Oliver Glasner confirmed he will be leaving the club in the summer.

This decision is not surprising, with tensions between Glasner and chairman Steve Parish arising before the start of the 2025/26 season, and the Austrian revealed his decision to leave was made in October.

With the news of Glasner's exit public, Palace can go full steam ahead in their search for a replacement.

Here, DAZN News names three possible names to take over from Glasner at Selhurst Park.

Gareth Southgate

He may frequently be distancing himself from an imminent return to football, but former England manager Gareth Southgate will be a candidate for Palace.

Southgate knows the club like the back of his hand. He is a graduate of the Palace academy, making his first team debut in 1990 before being appointed club captain three years later.

Making 152 appearances for the Eagles before joining Aston Villa in 1995, Southgate will feel comfortable at a place which will feel familiar.

Southgate may not implement the most exciting style of football, but he delivers results, and for a team like Palace whose main goal at the start of each season is to stay in the Premier League, Southgate is someone who can maintain that status with a talented group of players.

Thomas Frank

Yes, Thomas Frank is still manager of Tottenham Hotspur, but he's not expected to be in north London much longer.

However, if Frank does leave Spurs, Palace could be a good choice for him to restore his reputation.

It is clear that Frank is struggling with the pressure of being the manager of a 'Big Six' club; taking charge of Palace, on the other hand, will be more akin to his tenure at Brentford

Palace arguably have a better talent pool than Brentford, and combine this with Frank's ability to build a solid team unit whilst improving relatively unknown names, the Dane is a worthy candidate for taking the reins at Selhurst Park.

The only fear would be Frank's relationship with the board; he is very hands-on when it comes to transfers, and we have seen in the past that sometimes Parish can go against his manager's recommendations.

Kieran McKenna

Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna has been on the managerial wish list for many clubs, and he will be at the top of Palace's.

McKenna deserves the opportunity to manage an established Premier League side, but if Palace are to acquire his signature, then two things need to go their way.

First, the club will likely need to meet a rumoured break clause after McKenna signed a four-year extension in 2024, following Ipswich's promotion to the Premier League.

Then there is the slight issue of Ipswich being in the race for an immediate return to England's top flight.

Sitting third in the Championship, McKenna will want to be fully focused on the task at hand in Suffolk and not be diverted by other job offers.

If Ipswich do get promoted come May, then it will be a whole lot harder for Palace to tempt away a man who has modelled everything in his image at Portman Road.
