Inter Miami manager Javier Mascherano has stated that his team needs to improve in transition if they are to enjoy success at the FIFA Club World Cup.

The MLS outfit kicked off the tournament on Saturday night against Egypt's Al Ahly with Lionel Messi and co. unable to get a breakthrough in a 0-0 draw

Instead it was the goalkeepers who stole the show with some stunning saves to keep their respective teams in the game and securing the first points in Group A.

Speaking to DAZN after the game, Mascherano gave his verdict on how his team performed at the Hard Rock Stadium.

"I’m happy with the performance, we were much better in the second half," the Argentinian said.

"I think we could have improved in the second half with the transitions because in the first half we lost some balls to them in transition.

"In the second half, we created chances, we controlled the game and we had the chances to score and win the game.

"In the first half we were nervous, we didn’t move the ball from one side to the other."

In a group that also contains Palmeiras and Porto, who meet later today, Inter Miami will still fancy their chances to progress with the likes of Messi, Luis Suarez and Sergio Busquets in the squad.

Inter Miami will return to action on Thursday, June 19 when they face former UEFA Champions League winners Porto at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta live and free on DAZN.
