National League games this week: Can chasing pack keep pace with Rochdale?

After a frantic Boxing Day, the National League returns on Tuesday night with a full schedule of fixtures to wrap up 2025.

League leaders Rochdale were the biggest winners from the Christmas period after their hard-fought win over Morecambe, while Forest Green Rovers and York City both dropped points.

The Dale have now won their last 7 in all competitions and embark on a favourable home clash with Hartlepool United, who are without a win in their last 3 league matches.

It is up to the chasing pack to stay within touching distance of Jimmy McNulty's side in what could be a pivotal day in the fifth tier.

You can catch every inch of the action from all the fixtures live on DAZN, and here is the pick of what to look out for.

Games to watch from the National League this weekend

Altrincham vs. York City

  • Date: Tuesday, December 30
  • Time: 7.45pm

On paper, a trip to Altrincham may look like easy work for promotion hopefuls York, but the Robins have been something of a bogey team for the Minstermen over the years.

York have failed to win in any of the previous ten meetings between the clubs, with Altrincham securing 9 wins. If Stuart Maynard's men want to achieve automatic promotion this season, then they simply must buck the trend at the J. Davidson Stadium.

The Minstermen struggled against Boston United - another one of their bogey teams - on Boxing Day, but managed to salvage an unlikely point on home soil. Boston were heading to all 3 points against ten-man York, only for Josh Stones to rescue a 2-2 draw in the 96th minute.

As for Altrincham, their 2-1 loss away to Halifax Town means that they have now lost their last four games in all competitions. While they are 5 points above the relegation zone in 16th, another loss would have them looking over their shoulder.

Maynard's men are only 3 points behind Rochdale in third, but have played two more games, meaning they must clinch their first win over Altrincham on Tuesday night.

Boreham Wood vs. Solihull Moors

  • Date:  Tuesday, December 30
  • Time:  7.45pm

Boreham Wood and Solihull Moors enter the final gameweek of 2025 in fine fettle, meaning there could be fireworks at Meadow Park on Tuesday evening.

While many have been waiting for Luke Garrard's side to falter, they have done the opposite and are now up to second in the table after a fourth straight league win. The Wood made easy work of a potentially tricky Boxing Day visit to local rivals Wealdstone, romping to a 4-0 victory at Grosvenor Vale.

The Moors should provide a much sterner test for the promotion chasers after they recorded a remarkable 7-1 hammering over Tamworth in their last outing - the joint biggest win in the club's history.

With Chris Millington's men eyeing the play-off positions, Boreham Wood will have to be at their best to rollover the Stones on home soil.

Rochdale vs. Hartlepool United

  • Date: Tuesday, December 30
  • Time: 7.45pm

Rochdale are showing no signs of blinking in their quest for promotion and will be expected to continue their superb form when they host play-off hopefuls Hartlepool United.

The Dale showed tremendous character to overcome Morecambe in what was a tough away contest, snatching an 80th-minute winner courtesy of a tremendous curling effort by Harvey Gilmour.

McNulty's men are now in the driving seat to secure promotion, having increased their lead at the top to 2 points with 2 games in hand on their closest rivals.

Meanwhile, Hartlepool are still without a win in December after their narrow 2-1 defeat at home to fellow top 7 challengers Scunthorpe United. The Monkey Hangers are now 4 points adrift of the play-off places and have played 2 more games than their rivals, meaning promotion is looking increasingly unlikely.

If Rochdale end the year with another victory, then it would be bold to bet against them returning to League Two at the end of the campaign.
