Another weekend of Premier League action is behind us, with 10 more matches to add to the growing narrative that is the 2025-26 season.

Things started with a massive derby, which was then followed by an undefeated side suffering its first loss and a chess match between title challengers.

Here are some of the bigger talking points from Matchweek 5.

Liverpool rule Merseyside

It was a fifth consecutive win to start the Premier League campaign for Liverpool, and this one came against rivals Everton.

The Reds have earned some criticism for not being at their best despite the run of victories, especially because they've relied on late goals to push them over the line in all of their previous matches.

Saturday's Merseyside derby bucked the trend however, as Liverpool were comfortable from start to finish and even got all their goals in before the half-hour mark as they ran out 2-1 winners.

Even with a bit of pressure applied from Idrissa Gueye's 58th-minute strike for the Toffees, Liverpool were relatively unbothered as they earned their first win without the need for late heroics.

Man United end Chelsea's undefeated start

Chelsea put in their worst performance of the season so far in Saturday's visit to Old Trafford, resulting in a 2-1 loss to Manchester United.

It started with Robert Sanchez's ill-advised challenge in the fifth minute that saw him sent off and it went down hill from there as the Blues could not deal with the adversity and fell into a two-goal hole by halftime.

Even a gift in the form of a needless second yellow card just before the break by Casemiro, who had scored the game's second goal moments earlier, wasn't enough to get Chelsea back into the match as they showed real vulnerability en route to their first league loss of the season.

As for Man United, the win was an unexpected surprise against a side that was in form, but the real question is whether they can actually build on it.

Martinelli rescues Arsenal again

It's been a big week for Gabriel Martinelli, who has seen his starting position at Arsenal taken away amid several new attacking signings over the summer.

That has forced the Brazilian to take on a new role as a super sub, and he has embraced the task with back-to-back impactful performances off the bench.

On Sunday, Martinelli subbed on in the 80th minute with Arsenal frustrated by Manchester City's ultra-defensive tactics as the Sky Blues looked to protect their lead. He had just over 10 minutes to make his mark, and in the third minute of stoppage time did just that, as the 24-year-old ran onto a lobbed pass from fellow substitute Eberechi Eze and chipped it past City goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, who could do nothing but watch as the ball bounced agonizingly slowly into the wide-open goal.

It was another display of Martinelli's directness, changing a match late for the Gunners, who also benefitted from his late inclusion a few days earlier as they defeated Athletic Bilbao 2-0 in the Champions League on the back of a Martinelli goal and assist.
