Pulisic has found a home at Milan, now he’s powering their resurgence

Christian Pulisic has always carried the feel of a prodigy – the teenager at Dortmund who moved with a twitchy urgency, the young American who arrived in the Premier League promising fireworks. What felt like potential for years has, at AC Milan, finally been turned into consistent production.

Since his move to Milan in the summer of 2023, Pulisic has found a tactical home and the freedom to do what he does best: pick pockets of space, accelerate past defenders and finish or set up the next danger with an instinctive final touch.

The result is a player who looks less like a reclamation project and more like a leader for a club quietly reasserting itself in Italy’s title picture.

That transformation was not overnight. In 2023-24 Pulisic announced himself as Milan’s answer to a long-asked question – could the fleet-footed winger finally turn flashes into numbers? He closed that first season with an eye-catching return – 15 goals and 10 assists across all competitions.

Those numbers spoke to both his finishing and creative evolution and marked him out among Serie A’s most destructive attackers. It wasn’t just volume; it was timing: late winners, incisive contributions in must-win games and a knack for turning half-chances into decisive moments.

He followed that with a season of even broader influence. In 2024-25 Pulisic pushed his totals higher, registering 17 goals and 10 assists across all competitions – figures that cemented him as one of the few attacking midfielders in Europe combining high output with relentless movement and pressing intensity.

Observers began to note not only his end product but his off-ball work: the pressing triggers, the third-man runs into the box, the ways he has learned to link with Rafael Leao and the midfield to create overloads on the left. Those numbers weren’t flukes; they were evidence of a player hitting his peak.

Christian PulisicThe early weeks of 2025-26 have only amplified the sense that Pulisic’s Milan are for real. He burst from the blocks in August and September, scoring in the Coppa Italia and following up with a brace-and-assist performance that helped Milan to a statement win. And through mid-November, he had already notched four Serie A goals and two assists, a return that places him among the competition’s most dangerous forwards so far this season.Getty

Those contributions have been catalytic in lifting Milan into the top end of the table and keeping them within shouting distance of the leaders as the calendar turns toward the derby.

All of this arrives ahead of a fixture that defines identity in Milan: the Derby della Madonnina against rivals Inter on Sunday. For Pulisic, the derby is a test and an opportunity – to prove he can tilt the big moments, to silence critics who once questioned whether his best years belonged elsewhere, and to provide the kind of match-winning moments that turn seasons.

Milan sit in the thick of the title race, a position their supporters had craved at the start of the campaign, and Pulisic’s runs, goals and creative flashes have been essential to that emergence. If Milan are to turn promise into a genuine Scudetto push, they’ll need their American in the same mood he’s shown since swapping London for Lombardy.

What makes the story feel complete is how natural it looks. Pulisic isn’t forcing himself into a system or resting on teenage laurels. He’s become the kind of engine player Milan lacked – incisive without selfishness, urgent without chaos.

At 27, with a run of seasons behind him that translate potential into record and narrative, Pulisic is no longer the American who might become great – he’s the player driving a resurgent Milan toward a derby that could define their season.
