The new Serie A season kicked off this past weekend and was packed full of stories up and down the country.

Cremonese were the headline act of matchday one as they ruined Massimiliano Allegri's return to Milan, while the champions began with a comfortable win thanks to two familiar goalscorers

DAZN News' Ash Rose makes sense of all the action from the first weekend of the campaign, with the Serie A Power Rankings.

DAZN is the new home for Italy's top flight, where you can watch every match - that's 380 games - live across the campaign.

Serie A on DAZN

1. Inter Milan

There's no better way to kick off a new season, under new management, than giving out a thrashing in your opening home game. Inter left last year's disappointments in the rearview mirror to hit five past Torino in a statement opening day victory.

Next match: August 31, Inter vs Udinese

2. Cremonese

Opening their campaign at the San Siro against a Milan team now spearheaded by former boss Max Allegri didn't seem to daunt the promoted side. They may have ridden their luck, but Cremonese pulled off the result of the weekend with their 2-1 win.

Next match: August 29, Cremonese vs Sassuolo

3. Napoli

The champions opened up the Serie A season on Friday with a routine victory over newly promoted Sassuolo. Even more pleasing was seeing Scott McTominay continue his Ballon d'Or level form for Antoino Conte, as well as Kevin De Bruyne marking his debut with a goal.

Next match: August 30, Napoli vs Cagliari

4. Juventus

There's some serious title talk being bandied about Juventus this season and they made their intentions clear with this routine win over Parma. Jonathan David opened the scoring on his league debut before Dusan Vlahovic wrapped up the points.

Next match: August 31, Genoa vs Juventus

5. Como

Cesc Fabregas' men continued to make strides in Serie A and kicked off the campaign with an impressive win over the league's established names. Nico Paz was the star with a goal and an assist as they ran out 2-0 winners over Marizio Sarri's side.

Next match: August 30, Bolonga vs Napoli

6. Roma

A winning start is all you can ask for as a new manager, especially one who's spent so long in his previous job and there is the amount of intrigue that's around Gian Piero Gasperini's Roma. New signing Wesley Franca's goal was the difference against Bologna.

Next match: August 30, Pisa vs Roma

7. Pisa

It looked like a tough-looking opening day for promoted Pisa, but they more than held their own against Atalanta and earned what could be a very handy point come later in the season.

Next match: August 30, Pisa vs Roma

8. Cagliari

There's not much that can compete with an impactful injury-time goal and Cagliari sent their home fans home happy thanks to Sebastiano Luperto's 94th-minute equaliser against Fiorentina. It was richly deserved too, having been the better team throughout.

Next match: August 30, Cagliari vs Napoli

9. Fiorentina

Fiorentina looked to have stolen an opening day victory as they led Cagliari going into stoppage time on opening day, thanks to Rolando Mandragora's goal just after the hour mark. However, a late equaliser saw a share of the spoils between the pair.

Next match: August 31, Torino vs Fiorentina

10. Verona

A point on the road in a fairly even game for Verona, who grabbed an equaliser through Suat Serdar in the second half of an evenly matched affair away at Udinese.

Next match: August 31, Lazio vs Hellas Verona

11. Udinese

Udinese took the lead against Verona thanks to a goal from Thomas Thiesson Kristenson, but weren't able to hold on for the win and had to settle for a point on matchday one.

Next match: August 31, Inter vs Udinese

12. Lecce

A point and a clean sheet in the opening weekend's only goalless draw would have pleased the away side more than the hosts, even if Lecce did have the better of proceedings.

Next match: August 29, Lecce vs Milan

13. Genoa

Patrick Vieira's men had to settle for a point as Genoa and Lecce fought out a goalless draw to kick off their Serie A campaign.

Next match: August 31, Genoa vs Juventus

14. Atalanta

Perhaps not the start that new boss Ivan Juric envisioned after following in the big footsteps of Gian Piero Gasperini at Atalanta. It took Gianluca Scamacca's 50th-minute goal to make sure of a share of the points at home to Pisa.

Next match: August 30, Parma vs Atalanta

15. Bolonga

Vincenzo Italiano's team were stubborn and dogged in trying to prevent Roma's new boss from getting a win in his first game in charge; however, they succumbed to the one goal and an opening day defeat.

16. Sassuolo

Not many gave Sassuolo a chance on their instant return to Serie A and so it proved against reigning champions Napoli. The 2-0 defeat also saw Ismael Kone receive a red card for the home side.

Next match: August 29, Cremonese vs Sassuolo

17. Parma

A first game in charge for Carlos Cuesta as he faced the daunting trip to Juventus, and his side never really looked like toppling the Italian giants. Bigger and more achievable targets await Parma.

Next match: August 30, Parma vs Atalanta

18. Lazio

Lazio would have been disappointed by their opening day showing at Como, where they were comfortably beaten by Cesc Fabregas' side. Not the standard that Maurizio Sarri requires of his team.

Next match: August 31, Lazio vs Hellas Verona

19. Torino

An away day at the San Siro was never going to be the easiest opening day task; nevertheless, it was a terrible day at the office for Torino. Starting with a 5-0 drubbing quickly erases that new season hope and they'll be looking to quickly bounce back.

Next match: August 31, Torino vs Fiorentina

20. Milan

It couldn't have been a worse start for the returning Max Allegri and new boy Luka Modric. The pair were billed as part of the plan to get Milan back on track this season, but began by suffering a shock opening day defeat courtesy of newly promoted Cremonese.

Next match: August 29, Lecce vs Milan
