UFC fans were expecting to hear Khamzat Chimaev announced as the next man to challenge Dricus Du Plessis for the title any day now but, according to a new report, the champ is out with an injury and won't be ready to compete at UFC International Fight Week as predicted.
The news came via Kevin Iole who wrote, "I’m hearing Dricus Du Plessis is injured, and though there has been no confirmation, if that’s accurate, a bout between Du Plessis and Khamzat Chimaev couldn’t headline IFW."
The news quickly blew up on social media with fans claiming DDP was running from Chimaev.
And now even Chimaev has chimed in.
We must remember that neither the proposed fight, nor the injury has been confirmed or made official yet. So far, a flyweight title bout between champ Alexandre Pantoja and challenger Kai Kara-France is the biggest announced for the event.
Du Plessis hasn't responded to the injury rumors just yet. His last tweet, marked March 29 reads, "I’m out see you in a week or so #blindleadingtheblind." We'll have to wait and see what unfolds in the next few weeks.
