Despite suffering a crushing loss to Gilbert Burns, Tyron Woodley managed to outpace the rest of the UFC on ESPN 9 card with a $200,000 payday.
Woodley was dominated for every minute of the five-round fight with Burns and suffered his second consecutive defeat after dropping his UFC welterweight title to Kamaru Usman last March.
Burns has been rolling as of late with his sixth consecutive win. He earned the second-highest payout with $168,000 that was a combination of a $84,000 win bonus to go along with a check for $84,000 to show. Burns also added $50,000 for his "Performance of the Night" bonus that he earned against Woodley.
Katlyn Chookagian may have been left off the main card, but the No. 2 ranked women's flyweight still brought in the third-highest payday with $120,000 ($60,000 show plus $60,000 win) as she earned a unanimous decision victory over Antonina Shevchenko ($35,000). Mackenzie Dern made UFC history as the first women's fighter to win a fight with a leglock and took home $66,000 for her kneebar submission of Hannah Cifers ($25,000). Dern also took home an additional $50,000 for winning a "Performance of the Night" bonus for the submission.
