River Plate will fly the flag for Argentina and look to improve on their best-ever finish as they join the expanded fray in the United States at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.
The former 2015 finalists are one of a handful of veteran contenders looking to leave their mark on the tournament, which has typically been dominated by UEFA outfits.
In a promising group where there is plenty of intrigue, they will fancy their chances of starting on the right foot and securing passage through to the knockout rounds.
But just how did they seal their berth for the revamped Club World Cup, set to take place across the United States between June and July this year? DAZN News has all the information.
River Plate are one of six CONMEBOL teams competing in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup and qualify as the best-ranked eligible team in the four-year ranking.
Despite the fact they have not tasted success in the Copa Libertadores in recent years, their continued success as a domestic and international contender has earned them a berth.
River Plate have been drawn into Group E, alongside Inter Milan (Italy), Monterrey (Mexico) and Urawa Red Diamonds (Japan).
In order to reach the knockout stages, they must first successfully navigate this opening stage where the top two teams from each group will qualify.

The 2025 FIFA Club World Cup will begin on Saturday, June 14 when Inter Miami takes on Al Ahly FC at Hard Rock Stadium with the final scheduled for Sunday, July 13 at MetLife Stadium.
In total 32 teams will be competing at the Club World Cup with all international federations represented.
Inter Miami have also been give a place at the tournament as a result of the United States being the hosts.
