Andy Reid and Nick Sirianni are far from strangers.

They coached against each other in Super Bowl LVII in February 2023, with Reid's Chiefs getting the win in the waning seconds over Sirianni's Philadelphia Eagles.

Now, the coaches and their teams find themselves back in the big game as the Chiefs face the Eagles at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans for Super Bowl LIX on Sunday night.

With the coaching matchup an intriguing one, DAZN News analyzes both coaches and who might have the edge.

Andy Reid has a 3-2 record in Super Bowls, having won the last two in a row steering the Chiefs over the Philadelphia Eagles in February 2022 and the San Francisco 49ers in February 2023, respectively. His first Super Bowl victory as a head coach came back in 2020 when the Chiefs erased a 10-point deficit to defeat the 49ers.

Now, for the second time in three years, Reid and the Chiefs find the Eagles standing in their way of becoming Super Bowl champions. And this time, a win would make the Chiefs the first team in NFL history to pull off a Super Bowl three-peat.

What a feeling that must be especially considering Reid previously served as the Eagles’ head coach from 1999-2012 before being hired by the Chiefs.

He and Sirianni know each other well, having coached against each other in Super Bowl LVII in February 2023.

Nick Sirianni

Sirianni has led the Eagles to the playoffs in each of his four seasons at the helm — losing twice to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in an NFC Wild Card Game as the bookends of the 2021 and 2023 seasons, while being edged by Reid’s Chiefs, 38-35, in Super Bowl LVII on a game-winning field goal in between.

Now, he gets his second crack at Reid and Kansas City in trying to lead the Eagles to their first Super Bowl victory since February 2018, while preventing the Chiefs from becoming the first team in NFL history to win three Super Bowls consecutively.

Both Reid and Sirianni have mobile quarterbacks as their extensions on the field as Patrick Mahomes and Jalen Hurts regularly buy time scrambling on their feet to extend plays and end up with something more fruitful.

Each coach also has the luxury of moving the ball and chewing up the clock with running backs Saquon Barkley and Kareem Hunt. And they can also go to the air with highlighted weapons such as the Chiefs’ speedy rookie wideout Xavier Worthy and future Hall of Famer tight end Travis Kelce and the Eagles’ receiving corps led by AJ Brown and DeVonta Smith.

Plus, we’ve already pointed out how Butker’s Super Bowl-winning field goal led the Chiefs over the Eagles in 2023, so he could be a factor yet again.

Who will prove to be the better game manager between Reid and Sirianni?

Who will be willing to make the more gutsy calls that either get heralded or turned into scapegoat fodder?

While those questions are difficult to answer right now, they’ll materialize over 60 minutes of gridiron action Sunday night. Until then, there’s an advantage that Reid owns and that’s experience. Point blank: He has the situational experience in 25-plus years as an NFL head coach that has far eclipsed that of Sirianni's although the coach’s start has been stellar. For that reason, Reid gets the edge over Sirianni, bringing the Chiefs’ edge to 4-1 across five key Super Bowl LIX matchups.
