The good news for the Denver Broncos on Saturday is that they are going to the AFC Championship Game after defeating the Buffalo Bills 33-30 in overtime. But that victory has come at a price.
Broncos head coach Sean Payton revealed in his post-game press conference that quarterback Bo Nix broke a bone in his ankle and is out for the remainder of the playoffs. Jarrett Stidham will replace Nix, who will have surgery on Tuesday.
The injury occurred on the second-to-last play of the game when Nix went for a kneel-down to put field goal kicker Will Lutz in position to make the game-winning kick.
"[Stidham] is ready," Payton said to members of the media. "We'll be ready for the next challenge."
For the game, Nix went 26 of 46 for 279 with three touchdowns and one interception to get his first playoff win for the Broncos (15-3) and the team's first playoff win in nearly 10 years at Super Bowl 50. Now, he will have to watch from the sidelines as the organization looks to win its second Lombardi Trophy in the last decade.
