Dallas Cowboys vs Kansas City Chiefs full preview: Kick-off time, news, prediction and how to watch on DAZN

NFL fans are getting a proper main course in the middle of the Thanksgiving Thursday night window, as two desperate, dangerous teams square up with their seasons on the line.

The Kansas City Chiefs (6-5) visit Arlington in the unusual territory of sitting third in the AFC West. They at least cling to hopes of a Wild Card berth push after last week’s dramatic overtime win over the Colts.

The Dallas Cowboys (5-5-1) are perched precariously at 2nd in the NFC, but head into the holiday window with renewed belief after their inspired 21-point comeback against the Eagles.

Both teams know what's at stake here. Win, and the path to January football opens up. Lose, and the outlook becomes much harder.

With two elite offenses going head-to-head in a playoff-like atmosphere, this has all the ingredients for another Thanksgiving classic. Sit back and soak in the action live on DAZN with your NFL Game Pass.

Dallas’ explosive, top-ranked offense

Dallas rolls in with one of the league’s most dangerous units. The Cowboys lead the NFL in total offense (387.3 yards per game) and rank fourth in scoring (29.1).

Quarterback Dak Prescott guides the league’s top aerial attack, averaging 267 passing yards per game, and recently became the franchise’s all-time passing leader.

Wideouts CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens stretch the field. Pickens has already eclipsed 1,000 receiving yards with 10 grabs of 25-plus, Lamb has eight, and this group looks for chunk plays whenever it wants.

Tailback Javonte Williams brings the power. He’s fifth in rushing with 896 yards at 5.0 per carry. Dallas is 5-1-1 when he tops 80 yards and winless when he doesn’t.

Prescott thrives off that balance. He went 9-of-11 for 174 yards on play-action in the comeback over Philly.

The worry is at left tackle. Tyler Guyton is out, potentially ending a strong run up front that’s limited Prescott to just 17 sacks. Nate Thomas steps in against a Chiefs front that will test him early.

Chiefs' stuttering but dangerous offense

Kansas City hasn’t fallen off the map entirely. They are still ninth in scoring (25.2) and fifth in total offense (376.0), despite Patrick Mahomes' recent dropoff. With that said, every time he takes to the field, you know he can flip a game on its head.

He'll be able to rely on running back Isiah Pacheco this week, who returns after missing time and will ease the load on Kareem Hunt after his 33-touch day last weekend.

Rashee Rice and rookie burner Xavier Worthy are a dangerous duo. Their speed fuels an attack with 26 completions of 25-plus yards. And, even at 36, Kelce still remains a capable weapon over the middle.

The problem is finishing drives. KC put up 494 yards and 33 first downs on Indy but scored only 23, going 1-for-6 in the red zone. Earlier in the year, they were hitting at a 76% clip.

Right guard Trey Smith and tight end Noah Gray are out injured for this one, but most of the offense remains intact.

The Cowboys' defense is vulnerable but improving

The Cowboys’ defense has flirted with danger. They’re 31st in scoring defense (28.5) and 29th in total defense (377.5), with average sack production and just 0.9 takeaways a game.

But since the bye and after a few roster tweaks, things are trending up. Dallas held the Raiders to 16 points, then blanked Philly in the second half of the comeback win.

Getting linebacker DeMarvion Overshown back and trading for Logan Wilson have helped. The bigger shift, however, figuratively and literally, is the addition of All-Pro DT Quinnen Williams, who leads all interior linemen in pressures over the last two weeks.

The weak spot remains the secondary. Dallas has given up a league-high 29 passes of 25-plus yards and still sits 30th in passing yards allowed, even after recent improvements. With Mahomes and KC’s potentially potent offense, that’s a real cause for concern.

Spags has KC's defense is playing well

Kansas City brings the steadier defense. Steve Spagnuolo’s group ranks fourth in points allowed (18.3) and sixth in total defense (293.0), in a unit that holds up well against both the run and the pass.

Last week showed it off. The Chiefs held Indy’s top-ranked offense to a season-low 255 yards, forced four straight late three-and-outs, holding 2025's best running back, Jonathan Taylor, to a meagre 58 yards on 16 carries.

The takeaways and sacks aren’t at vintage levels, but the structure is tight. With Trent McDuffie steering the secondary and Spagnuolo’s mix of pressures, KC makes teams grind, especially on third down and in the red zone.

The challenge now is slowing Dallas’ sensational firepower. Match last week’s level, and KC sends a message to the AFC that they're truly back.

Keys to the game

  • Attacking Dallas’ secondary: The Cowboys have allowed more explosive passes (25+ yards) than any team in the league and rank 30th in passing yards allowed. With Rice and Worthy healthy, this is a matchup Mahomes has to exploit - especially off play-action and in shot-play situations.
  • Red-zone execution: The Chiefs moved the ball at will against the Colts but went 1-for-6 in the red zone, a massive drop from their 76% touchdown rate in Weeks 4–9. Dallas’ defense is bend-but-break; if Kansas City settles for field goals again, it opens the door for another Cowboys comeback.
  • Life without Tyler Guyton: With the starting left tackle out, Dallas must keep Prescott clean against a flexible Chiefs rush plan. Kansas City isn’t elite in sack rate, but Spagnuolo is an expert at finding matchup advantages with games and blitzes, especially on third down.

Playoff seeding implications

This one isn’t just a showcase game - it’s a leverage game.

The Chiefs enter Week 13 with a 52% chance to make the postseason. A win in Dallas increases their odds to 61%; a loss slashes it to just 35%.

Dallas is in much rougher shape. They currently have only a 9% chance of reaching the playoffs. A win over Kansas City would keep that sliver of hope alive, increasing their odds to 15%, while a loss would all but end their season.

The stakes could not be higher.

Kickoff date and time

  • Thursday, November 27, 2025
  • 4:30 pm ET/1:30 pm PT/9:30 pm GMT

Where is the game played?

This one kicks off at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, the Cowboys’ home and one of the most iconic venues in the league.

Nicknamed "Jerry World' after owner Jerry Jones, Dallas' stadium cost $1.3 billion to build and previously hosted Super Bowl XLV. The retractable-roof palace has become a Thanksgiving fixture.

Prediction

The prime-time lights can make strange things happen, and this could go either way if Dallas' defensive resurgence carries over into this game.

But, cautious as we should be about declaring the Chiefs fully back quite yet, we have to favour Mahomes and Co. here.
