NFL fans are in for a real treat in the early Thanksgiving game, as two evenly matched teams go head-to-head with everything to play for.
The Lions (7-4) arrive at Thanksgiving third in the NFC North, but only a game behind the division-leading Chicago Bears. Sitting eighth in our latest power rankings, Detroit looks like a team built for a deep playoff run.
The Packers (7-3-1) are harder to pin down. Brilliant one week and found wanting the next, they’re 12th in our power rankings and enter Week 13 on a mission to repeat their stunning Week 1 win over their division foes.
With both teams fighting hard for playoff positioning, this classic rivalry has all the makings of a holiday headliner. So wherever you are on Thursday, make sure you’re tuned in, live on DAZN with NFL Game Pass.
The Lions’ offense is a balanced unit. Quarterback Jared Goff has the talent, arm, and weapons in receivers Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams to punish opposing defenses through the air.
That trio will be under pressure to deliver in Week 13, as the offense will be hamstrung by the loss of tight end Sam LaPorta, who was added to the IR list with a back injury last week.
The backfield tandem of Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery is among the best one-two punches in the league. Gibbs, in particular, has excelled this year and is fresh from a scintillating career-high 219 rushing yard performance against the Giants.
Green Bay's offense may also be short-handed, with tailback Josh Jacobs nursing a knee injury. Per the latest reports, he's expected to suit up, but the short turnaround may open the door for backup running back Emmanuel Wilson, who accounted for 125 all-purpose yards in Jacobs' absence last week, to help out a little more than usual.
Quarterback Jordan Love has failed to throw a touchdown in three of his last four games and has coughed up three fumbles in his last three outings. With that said, he has been playing through an injury to his non-throwing arm and has otherwise avoided costly mistakes as a passer with only three interceptions on the season.
In Christian Watson, Romeo Doubs, and Dontayvion Wicks, Love has a trio of receivers who can get the job done - any of whom can step up each week to become a difference-maker.
Which version of the Lions' defense will show up this week? Will it be the group that allowed over 500 yards of offense to a Jameis Winston-led Giants team in Week 12? Or will we see shades of the dominant unit that held the Eagles and Buccaneers to a combined 18 points?
If edge rusher Aidan Hutchinson (8.5 sacks), linebacker Jack Campbell (108 tackles), and safety Brian Branch (6 passes defended) play anything like their best, it's likely to be a performance more reminiscent of the latter.
The unit has had its ups and downs in 2025, but it remains fully capable of stifling opposing offenses when they're on their game.
Green Bay’s defense will have a say in this. Micah Parsons may not be able to catch Myles Garrett in the race to become Defensive Player of the Year, but with 10 sacks in 11 games, he's arguably the most dangerous weapon the Packers have on defense.
Unlike Garrett, Parsons doesn't have to be a one-man pass rush show for his team, as Rashan Gary and Devonte Wyatt have both put forth solid efforts with 11.5 sacks between them.
At the second level, Green Bay can rely on the stellar play of second-year linebacker Edgerrin Cooper. If Quay Walker misses his second straight contest with a neck injury, Isaiah McDuffie is a ready-made replacement.
The Packers' secondary is a little banged up, with cornerbacks Keisean Nixon (neck) and Nate Hobbs (knee) limited in practice. If they cannot get healthy before Thursday, Goff and Co. may look to take advantage.
The Packers currently have a 78% chance of making the playoffs. A win on Thursday increases their odds to 92%, while a loss drops them to 69%.
The Lions enter with a 75% chance of making the playoffs. A victory would push them to 86%, but a loss would drop their odds to 60%.
This game will be at Ford Field, home of the Lions, in Detroit, Michigan.
The 65,000-seater stadium claims the best sight lines of any football stadium in the United States, thanks to its lowered upper level.
The Packers lead the all-time series 107-78-7 and won the last meeting between the two, 27-13 in Week 1.
In terms of talent, there's little to choose between the two teams, but with Gibbs in such sensational form, and the Packers' struggling to get healthy in the secondary, we'll side with the home team.
Lions 27 - 20 Packers
