Whether it ends in Super Bowl glory or not, Saquon Barkley has already had a historically great season with the Philadelphia Eagles.
Signed as a free agent from the New York Giants, the 27-year-old running back – who will celebrate his birthday the day of the Eagles’ showdown with the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday in New Orleans – became just the ninth player ever to rush for 2,000 yards in a single campaign.
Had he not sat out the final game of the regular season – which just happened to be against his former team – he might even have eclipsed Eric Dickerson’s record of 2,105 rushing yards, which has stood as the all-time high mark since 1984.
Barkley prioritised resting up and staying fresh for the playoffs over chasing records against the Giants. And his plan has worked to perfection thus far.
The former Penn State standout has run for 444 yards already this postseason, averaging 6.7 yards per carry and with a staggering five touchdowns in three games.

And against the Chiefs, there will be a handful of Super Bowl records well within Barkley’s grasp.
The record for rushing touchdowns in a single Super Bowl game is currently held jointly by legendary Denver Broncos running back Terrell Davies and Barkley’s teammate, Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts, with three.
There were 17 rushes of 60 yards or more during the 2024 regular season. Barkley was responsible for seven of them. With his trademark explosiveness, he could eclipse the records for the longest run from scrimmage at a Super Bowl, which stands at 75 yards and was set by Willie Parker of the Pittsburgh Steelers at Super Bowl XL in 2006.
And there is one postseason record Barkley will almost certainly capture against the Chiefs. He may even do so within the first quarter.
He needs just 40 more yards to eclipse Davis’ 1998 record for the most rushing yards in a season inclusive of the playoffs, which currently stands at 2,476.
