Adam Azim believes he would be ready to fight deposed lightweight champion George Kambosos Jr. within a year.

Kambosos lost to Devin Haney in Australia in a fight which saw the American emerge as the undisputed lightweight champion.

There is a deal for a rematch in the offing but nothing has been confirmed, and a year’s timeline would give the Australian the chance to fight at least twice regardless.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Azim ssaid: "I reckon I could take him in a year's time or something, whenever Shane [McGuigan, his trainer] thinks it's right.

"I don't even mind. Because I know how to beat him. That would be a good name. Because he was world champion.

"How George Kambosos went into that fight wasn't a good gameplan,'' Azim noted.

"[Devin] Haney picked him off quite easily.”

Despite being just 19, Azim believes he could be champion within a couple of years.

"Two more years I could be world champion, one and a half years, you never know because I want to become champion at a young age and keep developing," Azim claimed.

"It's a task, it's a challenge and it's a step by step process. I believe using that as my motivation will drive me in training more.''

''I can get to the top.”
