NEW YORK — Austin ‘Ammo’ Williams was supposed to challenge for Carlos Adames’ WBC middleweight world title Saturday night at Madison Square Garden in New York City, and live on DAZN PPV. However, when Adames was struck with an illness, Wendy Toussaint was named as a late replacement, and Williams slid down the Ring VI card.
It was not the same stakes without the world championship being on the line, but Williams made the most of the stage at ‘The World’s Most Famous Arena,” and live on DAZN, regardless.
Williams (20-1, 13 KOs) recorded his 20th pro victory, dropping Toussaint in the fourth round en route to a lopsided unanimous decision.
At the end of 10 rounds, judges scored it 98-91, 99-90, and 99-90 all in Williams’ favor. ‘Ammo’ has now won four straight fights since suffering his first loss — an 11th-round TKO at the hands of Hamzah Sheeraz — back in June 2024.
Having trained and prepared for Adames, Williams needed a few rounds to feel Toussaint (17-4, 7 KOs) out. They got to know each other very well during a heated exchange in the third round, where the late replacement actually landed the better blow.
That said, Williams would crank up the pressure during the fourth, smothering Toussaint and dropping him by detonating a punishing right-handed uppercut on the chin. Toussaint struggled to get back to his feet and was saved by the bell.
With grit, Toussaint would hang tough to go the distance as Williams could not finish him, but remained in control throughout. Toussaint even unloaded a flurry that caught Williams during the final seconds of the bout.
It wasn’t the title shot that Williams had coveted, but he picked up another victory, nonetheless, keeping his case strong for a middleweight title shot.
