Eddie Hearn and Chris Eubank Jr. will never be best friends, but there was a time when Hearn was guiding the career of the Brighton man.
In recent years, the relationship between the pair has been extremely strained and it got worse earlier this year when Eubank Jr. collided with Conor Benn.
At a recent press conference, Eubank Jr. told the assembled media that he was prevented from leaving the Tottenham Hotspur stadium on the night of his fight with Benn and he placed some of the blame on the team of his great rival.
Hearn immediately rubbished these claims and hinted he would be taking further action against Eubank Jr., and the story has only intensified the feud between Eubank Jr. and Benn who will meet again on November 15, exclusively live on DAZN.
When promoting Eubank Jr., Hearn was keen to secure a contest with middleweight ruler Gennadiy Golovkin, and although he eventually brought him to London to face Kell Brook, the original plan had been a showdown with Eubank Jr.
Hearn insists that the fight was agreed before Chris Eubank Sr. made a bizarre request that ultimately shut negotiations down.
“The fight was done. The fight was done as far as I was concerned,” said Hearn when speaking to iFLTV.
“Chris Eubank Sr. comes in and he says, ‘there is one thing that is important to me...the commentator for the fight must be Barry McGuigan.’ Barry McGuigan was working for ITV at the time and the fight’s on Sky.
Eubank Sr. was eager for McGuigan to work the fight as it was the Irishman who provided analysis on Eubank Sr’s epic contest with Nigel Benn.
“I had Sky guys there and they said no and they’d be doing the production with their commentary team. I just walked out of the meeting.”
