Unbeaten champion dares his next opponent to 'sit in the pocket with me'
Devin Haney bids to become a three-weight world champion when he takes on welterweight title holder Brian Norman Jr. on Saturday.
The latter puts his WBO belt on the line as they square off on the fantastic Ring IV: Night Of Champions card in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia live on DAZN PPV.
With Haney’s ‘defeat’ to Ryan Garcia in April last year subsequently declared a no contest, both men are defending unbeaten records and they are looking to steal the show on a huge night of action.
Haney was accused by many of ‘running’ when recording a unanimous decision victory over Jose Ramirez on his welterweight debut in May and Norman Jr. has pleaded with his opponent not to do the same against him.
Ring Magazine“Sit in the pocket with me,” Norman Jr. bated his opponent.
“Sit in that pocket me. Sit in the pocket with me and I will learn you something different – and I ain’t even talking about just the power."
When asked by Haney what if he puts him down, Norman Jr. was quick to reply: “You can’t! You ain’t got nothing in those gloves.”
That sparked outrage from Haney, who came back with: “I can’t? Remember this day!
“After the fight, I’m gonna be like ‘I told you’. You violate, I’m going to demonstrate.”
There is certainly no love lost between these American rivals and their fight this weekend has the making of something special.
