Devin Haney confronts Ryan Garcia in ring; both game to fight each other in 2020

Devin Haney confronts Ryan Garcia in ring; both game to fight each other in 2020DAZN
What an incredible bout that would be between two of boxing's best young undefeated stars.

Devin Haney wasn't at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif., on Friday night to simply be a spectator for Ryan Garcia's fight.

After witnessing Garcia crush Francisco Fonseca in a first-round knockout, Haney immediately entered the ring and confronted "Kingry" to demand a fight.

"If he wants a real fight," Haney told DAZN's Chris Mannix, "come fight me."

"You gotta beat me to become champ," he added. "Let's make it happen."

Garcia was all for it.

"I'm turned up right now!" he yelled with a smile. "We need to fight. We're good fighters, let's f—ing fight!"

While both undefeated boxers are more than hyped to fight, such an enticing bout will likely have to wait considering Haney is still recovering from December shoulder surgery. He told DAZN that he just started his rehab and is looking toward July for a return to the ring.

Earlier in the night, Garcia's Golden Boy Promotions promoter, Oscar De La Hoya, said that the plan was for Garcia to face Jorge Linares next, and that he had even reserved Staples Center in Los Angeles for them to clash in July. Linares scored an impressive knockout himself in the card's co-feature bout against Carlos Morales.

Linares' outing might have motivated Garcia to deliver his emphatic KO and for Haney to react, although those tuning into the live stream on DAZN could have seen the confrontation between Haney and Garcia brewing. Before Garcia even entered the ring, Haney insisted live on DAZN that he "won all six" of his amateur fights against Garcia and that he has the Los Angeles product figured out.

"I know Ryan Garcia well," Haney said. "I know his flaws, and that's one thing I will expose when we fight."

Earlier in the day, while speaking with DAZN News' Andreas Hale, Haney blasted Garcia for prioritizing a fight with Gervonta "Tank" Davis over him.

"I don't understand that," Haney told Hale. "He keeps talking about Tank, Tank, Tank, Tank. Right now, Tank is going through his own issues. That's his problem, whatever, but that fight is hard to make."

Haney was referring to Davis being charged with simple battery domestic violence earlier this month after cell-phone footage showed him putting his hands on a woman at a charity basketball game during Super Bowl weekend in Miami.

As Haney kept talking, it became clear that he believes a bout with Garcia can be made.

"Me and (Garcia), we're on the same network (DAZN), Golden Boy, Matchroom (Boxing USA) work together all the time," he continued. "Why not make this fight happen? It sounds like he's scared. He's scared to say my name. Deep down in his heart, he knows he can't beat me. He doesn't want to make the fight happen and that's it."
