On July 12, live on DAZN, Sheeraz will step up to super-middleweight and he will be faced with a stern test as he goes up against the former world title challenger.
Last year, Berlanga went 12 rounds with Canelo Alvarez when aiming to become undisputed ruler, but he was beaten on the scorecards despite putting up a spirited effort.
In February, Sheeraz had his own opportunity to become world champion when he faced Carlos Adames on the huge ‘Last Crescendo’ bill in Saudi Arabia.
Second best for much of the contest, Sheeraz was very fortunate to escape with a draw and that result has prompted him to make changes to his team by bringing in Andy Lee as his new trainer.
Their first task together will see Sheeraz face Berlanga, and Heran, who has promoted the most recent stage of Berlanga’s career, has sent a warning to Sheeraz ahead of his next clash.
“You’re coming up to 168. If you get knocked out at 168, where on Earth do you go?” said Hearn when speaking to The Ring .
“You hope for a world title. You’ve lost at the world level. You’re kind of back to the domestic scene.”
As well as issuing caution to Sheeraz, Hearn was quick to point out that victory for the British star could open the doors for much bigger fights.
“His Excellency [Turki Alalshikh] is looking for guys in 2026 for the Canelo matchups, and Hamzah Sheeraz is very marketable. It’s a great story. He’s been a big part of the Riyadh Season.”
“This has been a big moment for Hamzah Sheeraz. A new trainer in Andy Lee, who, in my opinion, is one of the best trainers in the world. If they get this game plan right, they can beat Edgar Berlanga. But it’s going to be a very dangerous fight.”
