Erickson Lubin feels victory over Vergil Ortiz Jr. can finally earn him the respect he believes has eluded him throughout his career so far.
'The Hammer', a former WBC super welterweight challenger, takes on one of the division's major pound-for-pound stars in Texas tonight.
At 27-2 throughout his professional career, the star has built a strong resume, and Ortiz has paid tribute to his opponent before their bout.
But Lubin feels he has not always been afforded his due for his achievements, and speculates it may take an upset here to earn his flowers.
"I've been doing this for so long, I fought the top guys," he told The Ring. "I never said no to an opponent [but I] feel like the respect isn’t really given.
"Some do obviously respect me. I’ve got a great majority that do show love and respect for what I do for boxing, but I just feel like it’s time for a big win.
"Something like beating Ortiz, a big win like that, I feel like I’ll get the respect that I’m looking for. I feel like I'm one of the top [fighters in the division].
"I feel like [critics] throw narratives out there and make me seem like my time has passed. But I’m just entering my prime. I feel great.
"A guy like Vergil Ortiz is gonna bring the best out of me because he’s young and on fire, so I just want prove to the fans that I’ve still got that fire in me."
Chris Eubank Jr and Conor Benn's much anticipated rematch is live and exclusive on DAZN PPV on Saturday, November 15. Buy for £24.99 UK / $59.99 US.
